Role
The Sustainable Tourism Manager will provide leadership and inspiration in developing and managing the delivery of sustainable tourism functions and related partnership activity for the National Park Authority.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and supporting work with our tourism businesses that support the National Park to be a thriving place that is nature positive and carbon negative. This will include working on a range of projects, partnerships and collaborations bringing expert insight and experience to support positive change.
Responsibilities:
- Lead on the progress and development of initiatives and projects that deliver or relate to tourism in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders in the tourism sector based on achieving relevant outcomes and priorities set out in the National Park Partnership Plan and other related plans.
- Facilitate support to help tourism businesses develop their own positive changes and transition to help the National Park be a low-carbon place with a greener economy.
- Co-ordinate tourism functions and projects in relation to Annual and Corporate plans, including staff and financial resources, and ensure effective and efficient team management is in place to deliver enabling and supporting work along with programme and project activity.
- Provide advice, expert insight and information as required on matters relating to tourism and related commercial activity and ensure development, monitoring and ongoing review of all tourism and related activity as part of wider outcomes and programmes of work.
- Support the delivery of high-quality visitor services provided from National Park assets by building strong relationships with tourism operators and National Park Authority tenants working closely with the Estates Team.
- Develop the necessary partnerships, collaboration and engagement with other organisations, management or Destination Groups, informal national forums, communities or wider interests to ensure ongoing efficient and effective partnerships to achieve the delivery of tourism priorities and programmes as set out in the National Park Partnership Plan.
- Ensure tourism budgets and expenditures are developed and aligned with operational planning and that financial procedures are adhered to.
- Identify improvement opportunities for tourism projects and supportive activity and deliver innovative solutions to capitalise on these.
- Seek funding opportunities and lead on approaches to suitable funding sources to introduce external or commercial income in support of the delivery of outcomes or priorities in line with the National Park Partnership Plan and the National Park Authority Corporate Plans, and Annual Operational Plans.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as required.
Who we are looking for:
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
- Demonstrable experience of working in the tourism sector and leading innovative projects and initiatives which support the visitor economy.
- Experience of initiating, developing and managing projects, including success in securing and managing external funding.
- Success in team and people leadership.
- A track record of sound budget management experience.
- Experience in partnership working and delivery of partnership projects, particularly were engaging with tourism businesses and operators.
- Strong knowledge of the Scottish and UK tourism sector.
- The ability to sensitively manage stakeholder relationships across public, private and the third sector, as well as local interests in a high-scrutiny environment.
- Articulate with excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to think strategically and prepare convincing strategies, reports, recommendations and business cases to achieve strategic outcomes.
- Good analytical and organisational skills with the ability to adapt and respond to new requirements.
- Degree, or equivalent, in a related discipline.

All Roads Lead to Whithorn SCIO is seeking an experienced, motivated Charity Manager to lead the next stage of growth for our newly refurbished community hall, gym, luxury bunkhouse and small portfolio of social housing. This is a rare opportunity to shape a high-quality rural community hub and asset that creates new opportunities for Whithorn and the wider Machars.
The trustees are determined to appoint the right person and can offer flexibility in how the role is structured for a candidate with the skills and track record we need. We will also consider an interim Charity Manager arrangement for the right person. Hybrid working (part hall-based, part home-based) is possible, and for candidates from further afield we can offer overnight accommodation in our on-site bunkhouse as part of the package.
About the role
The Charity Manager will have overall responsibility for strategic, financial and operational management across:
- Whithorn’s community hall and activity space
- The on-site gym
- The luxury bunkhouse
- A small number of social housing properties
- Wider community projects and development activity
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic leadership – Working with trustees to develop, implement and review the charity’s strategy, turning ideas into deliverable plans and projects.
- Funding and opportunity sourcing – Identifying opportunities, leading high-quality grant applications, developing relationships with funders and partners, and building new income streams linked to the hall, gym, bunkhouse and housing. Proven experience in grant and opportunity sourcing is essential.
- Financial oversight – Working with our external bookkeeper to review reports, approve payments, monitor budgets and cashflow, lead annual budgeting and provide clear financial updates to the Board. Oversight of VAT, HMRC and payroll through external providers.
- Governance and compliance – Ensuring policies and procedures (health & safety, safeguarding, GDPR, insurance, housing compliance) are up to date and followed.
- People and operations – Line-managing the Facilities, Gym & Bunkhouse Coordinator and a casual Community & Hospitality Support Worker, supporting volunteers and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across all sites.
- External relations – Acting as an ambassador for the charity with community members, partners, funders and visitors; promoting the facilities and the Whithorn area as a destination.
About you
You will bring:
- Proven experience in charity, community or social enterprise management.
- A strong track record of successful grant and opportunity sourcing (must-have).
- Confidence with budgets and financial information, and experience working with finance/admin support.
- Good understanding of governance, health & safety, safeguarding and GDPR.
- Experience line-managing staff and/or volunteers.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a hands-on, problem-solving approach.
Experience in housing management, community facilities, tourism, accommodation or rural regeneration would be an advantage but is not essential.

About the role

Role Overview

Rock Trust delivers the Upstream prevention project in schools and the post holder will work with the Upstream Team, pilot schools and education departments to create a toolkit for the implementation of Upstream. This will involve working with current pilot schools to document the changes required in school systems, the challenges and how to overcome them and an assessment of the resources required to deliver Upstream. The Ask & Act Education Manager will use this learning to create a toolkit and implementation plan to be used for national implementation.
This role is responsible for:
- Coordinating work with multiple local authority Education departments, senior leaders and cross-sector partners (Housing, Social Work, Health, third sector)
- Designing and documenting processes, guidance and training materials that enable schools to embed early identification of housing risk
- Capturing learning, gathering data and producing a national implementation framework
- Ensuring all activity aligns with statutory duties, local contexts and Rock Trust’s prevention approach
The Ask & Act Education Manager will need to be methodical, have strong report writing skills and interpersonal skills to co-ordinate the information gathering and documenting. They will be responsible for delivering the toolkit to a high standard, making a lasting contribution to Scotland’s homelessness prevention system.
