Job Description

You will be based in our South Ayrshire service, which provides emotional and practical support to individuals and families affected by alcohol and drug use. Our teams work with people at every stage of their recovery journey — providing evidence-based psychosocial interventions, helping clients build resilience, exploring the root causes of substance misuse and achieving meaningful change.

• Our Recovery Service
• Family Support Service
• Connect4Change (in partnership with NHS Ayrshire & Arran and Ayrshire Council on Alcohol)
• Recovery Out of Alcohol and Drugs Support Service (ROADS) (in partnership with RecoveryAyr and Barnardo’s)

As Service Manager, you will be responsible for collaboratively leading the service to ensure a high level of performance by meeting targets and KPIs set, whilst creating a supportive and inclusive environment. This post requires excellent leadership skills to work innovatively and confidently, supporting staff in high performing recovery work, overseeing quality assurance and safeguarding and with the capacity to work within competing demands and tight timescales. You will work closely with the Head and Director of Service Delivery to ensure clear communication and a mutually agreed delivery of service.

Safeguarding those we provide our services to, sharing your concerns and putting the right interventions in place is key to the success of this role. You will work with a dedicated team of people, building strong relationships with other agencies to deliver the comprehensive support needed by those using our services. You will lead your team, providing development and clear direction aligned with the organisational aims and be a strong advocate for WithYou externally, maintaining and building our profile as you go.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week between Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm, with some evening and weekend flexibility as required. The salary for this position is £38,000 - £44,000 per annum.

Essential Skills

The most important thing you can bring to this role is clear and inspirational leadership. We’re open to discussions with candidates working in leadership roles outside of the drug and alcohol arena - for example, in mental health or housing. We’re most interested in your ability to demonstrate motivational leadership skills, with the drive to promote staff development and retention. You’ll have the support of a Head of Service Delivery and a wider team of experienced and dedicated stakeholders across the organisation.

You should have:

• SSSC Registered Managers qualification or equivalent (or be willing to complete this)
• A proven track record of managing and supervising others
• Experience in drug and alcohol support services, or in an equivalent social care setting
• Experience of partnership working and within multidisciplinary teams
• Experience of working within community based services
• Ability to develop and lead a cohesive team
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to quickly establish credibility and/or make a positive impact
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Full Time Salary:£25,077.00 pro rata

Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and all payments will be paid pro rata based on contracted hours.

Responsibilities

About the role:

• To support the provision of the service’s key activities; assessment, implementation, monitoring and review of recovery plans; structured psychosocial support, group work, peer led interventions, and planned treatment exit.
• To deliver effective engagement and harm reduction interventions as required by service users presenting with a wide range of drug or alcohol issues.
• To support service users, under the guidance of recovery coordinators, to access the full range of provision within the recovery orientated system of care, maximising benefits and recovery capital towards sustained recovery and community re-integration.
• To co-deliver support activities and interventions alongside the multi-disciplinary team, external agencies, peers and volunteers.
• To work with the recovery coordinator to build and develop the service user’s personal strengths, social networks and recovery capital.
• To effectively and proactively signpost service users into a rage of health and social care services that will support their recovery.
• To adhere to the implementation of all risk management procedures including child and adult protection protocols and guidelines taking personal responsibility for keeping up to date on the requirements of these procedures.
• To fully inform service users about their recovery/treatment options, involve them in decisions and consent and encourage them to take opportunities to achieve a sustained recovery.
• To form productive working relationships with external agencies and professionals, existing and new, to ensure service users have access to a wide range of recovery and community.

About you:

• Experience in providing a range of evidence-based treatment/support interventions within a Health and Social Care setting (through paid or voluntary work).
• Basic understanding and knowledge of the harmful effects associated with drugs and/or alcohol use in relation to health, social welfare, housing, employability and personal relationships.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of interventions available to substance users.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of policies related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and how these influence practice.
• An understanding of models of recovery and wider community service provision in supporting recovery.
• Understanding of principles of effective record keeping and administration processes.
• A good general standard of education to Standard Grade/GCSE level or equivalent including English. S/NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent level experience.
• Work effectively with colleagues and partnership agencies.
• Show a capacity to work on your own initiative and the ability to keep calm under pressure.
• Effectively time manage and prioritise tasks both independently and as part of a team.

Job Description

As our Substance Misuse Nurse, you will provide a range of health and wellbeing and harm reduction interventions to service users in accordance with the agreed model of service delivery. You will deliver high standards of nursing care to those affected by substance misuse and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

You will be an advocate for our patients, working closely with them to identify the physical, psychological, spiritual and social support they need. You will work flexibly providing a high standard of nursing care in a variety of settings, promoting the health and well-being of service users whilst maintaining a safe, caring and therapeutic environment.

You will participate as an active member of the nursing and multi-disciplinary teams, accountable for your practice, and work in partnership with other health care professionals, psycho-social case managers, patients and others in the delivery of care. You will support the delivery of specific healthcare clinics or groups, designed to support and educate clients, providing them with practical tools to overcome life’s challenges, this will include pre-session planning and post-session evaluation.

The post is within the Connect4Change Service who provide multidisciplinary intensive, flexible, and assertive outreach support for vulnerable people who:

• are 16+ and a resident of South Ayrshire
• may be disengaging from core alcohol or drugs services
• and / or have had recent contact with emergency services due to their alcohol and drug use
• and / or have experienced a recent non-fatal overdose

Essential Skills

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and post registration clinical experience
• Experience of delivering nursing interventions in a community setting
• Demonstrable experience of comprehensive assessment of need including risk assessments
• Knowledge of safe storage, handling and administration of drugs in particular controlled drugs
• Be able to work constructively with a wide variety of groups and individuals in a range of settings and work roles
• Be able to assess plans, implement and evaluate service user care and act accordingly if untoward changes occurred
• Be able to positive engage service users and treat the with respect and dignity
• Have effective written and communication skills
• Ideally you will have experience of working in a drug and alcohol setting

The role of Recovery Development Worker ensures a focus on building and strengthening visible recovery within and across communities. You may have lived experience of recovery or have skills and experience in a similar role. This role requires energy, enthusiasm and adaptability across the 7-day working week. Some evening and weekend work is critical to our operational delivery. The role demands a solution focused and strengths-based approach when working with all Recovery Scotland stakeholders.

About the job

The Recovery Development Worker is suited to an individual with "lived" and/or “learned” experience of recovery from problematic substance use or addictive behaviours, such as problem gambling, or someone who has been directly affected by another person’s substance use or addictive behaviours.

This experience of recovery and resilience can instil hope and is a powerful example within recovery communities. Individuals with lived experience of substance use must be at least 24 months free from problematic substance use and not engaging with services.

The post holder will be required to join the PVG scheme.
