Change Mental Health is a leading national mental health charity providing unique support to people with severe and enduring mental ill health. With over 50 years’ experience across Scotland, we believe people affected by poor mental health and illness deserve the highest quality of support in the community and that every person has the right to be valued and to share in the opportunities, challenges, and joys of everyday life.
Change Mental Health have received an award from the National Lottery Improving Lives Fund to recruit a Peer Worker at the Signature Project, a service for men who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Many of the men face multiple challenges in addition to their mental health, for example poverty, offending, drug and alcohol use and autism or ADHD. We offer face to face, online and telephone support from our base at the Stafford Centre in Broughton Street, and we work with men directly in the community. We also host a peer support group facilitated by men with lived experience.
This is a varied and rewarding role in a small, committed team, offering person-centred support to a wide range of men across Edinburgh. Under supervision of more senior staff, the post-holder will work with men to achieve what is important to them.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be able to intentionally use their experiences to instil hope, to model recovery and self-care skills, and to quickly build relationships with men who may mistrust services. They will enjoy working as part of a reflective team and have an ability to work flexibly and creatively. They should also be able to demonstrate personal resilience, and have some knowledge of the range of voluntary and statutory services in Edinburgh.
No qualifications or previous experience of support or care work are required as full training will be provided, but candidates should share the values of Change Mental Health and have a willingness to learn. This post is subject to membership of the PVG Scheme and appropriate checks.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities, which benefit the individual and the charity, and we are a “Happy to Talk Flexible” employer.
If you are passionate about assisting Change Mental Health to deliver a valuable service to men in Edinburgh and feel your profile matches the criteria, then we want to hear from you!
