We are looking for a teacher with experience of teaching PSHE or with pastoral experience, a health professional or someone with youth work/youth justice experience to join our small team.

The Talk About Trust charity has 15 years’ experience of providing alcohol and substance education and awareness in different ways, to young people age 11–25, and their parents/carers, and providing engaging and evidence-based resources and training for teachers, community leaders and for those working with young people. We work across England and Scotland with schools, local authorities, youth groups, foster agencies, police, housing associations, pupil referral units, special schools and parents/carers to provide holistic support to young people of all abilities and backgrounds. This part time role involves providing training and workshops in settings across Scotland.

Main Responsibilities:

• To work closely up skilling staff in the 5 charities (Action for Children, Enable, Street League, Aberdeen Foyer and FARE) that the Talk About Trust work with as part of an Inspiring Scotland funded project helping vulnerable 16 – 25 year olds into work.
• Complete quarterly reporting for above 2 year project to the funders
• Support teachers, youth professionals, partner charity staff and those working with young people on a day-to-day basis with training, resources, email and phone support. Host implementation and guidance workshops on Talk About trust resources and lessons.
• To contact, meet and network with schools, youth organisations, local authorities, ASL, PRU’s and relevant networks and groups in Scotland
• Provide a monthly report of all activities to the charity and its trustees and attend remote monthly management meetings and briefings
• Display a full understanding and compliance with data privacy, safeguarding and GDPR in all instances.

The position is home based, but you must be willing to travel throughout Scotland.

You are expected to:

• Be confident using IT packages including Microsoft TEAMS, Zoom, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Be confident in making presentations to professionals and running interactive workshops following full training
• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Have a background of teaching/health promotion or working with vulnerable young people and or local authorities
• To work in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.

About the Role

The main responsibilities will be to:

• Assist on the co-ordination of the Homelessness forum, delivering on an agreed action plan

• Assist with the co-ordination and delivery of the Homelessness and Prevention forum, delivering on an agreed action plan

• Enact on agreed Stakeholder engagement plan on behalf of the Head of Homelessness and deputising for them at key meetings / partnerships

• Operationalise non-service specific developments within TPS and ensure continued management / oversight of them

• Lead on agreed / delegated practice developments within TPS, nationally and internationally

• Keep abreast of the evidence base, best practice and the policy landscape in relation to homelessness and prevention, and work closely with our Policy and Business Development Officers to inform and support our work to shape and influence external policy and practice

About You

As our Practice and Innovation Lead, you will deliver our vision of Homelessness being seen as a Health and Social Care issue, imbedded within Health and Social Care Partnerships, and integrated as part of a whole system approach. You will be working closely with Head of Homelessness and will work across the different care groups and social issues where TPS deliver services across., Alcohol and Other Drugs, Justice, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities.

You will operationalise new developments identified within the organisation. This will include new projects to help meet our goals, influencing policy, developing position statements, and developing best practice across our services, nationally and internationally

You will have an awareness of the current social policy relating to homelessness and prevention and effected political systems. Ideally have with success in writing briefings or papers and addressing informed and influential audiences.

Engage and lead on work internally and externally across Scotland, UK, and Europe. This will include interpreting, analysing, and acting on key policy matters. With the ability to think creatively, network successfully, form positive relationships and work in collaboration with others.

Travel across Scotland to our Services and attend meetings at our main office in Glasgow is required.

• Provide leadership and guidance to volunteers to ensure effective delivery of services.

The Service

Due to new funding from the Scottish Government, this brand new service will be based in Aberdeen City centre and is currently being procured. This community based service will be framed around our Residential Therapeutic Community model, providing a structured day service. This flexible service will run a structured group work programme in addition to 1 to 1 support, including a range of meaningful activities to build recovery capital. Ran by a small team of 3 staff with support from volunteers and peer mentors. You will also work closely and collaborate with our new Residential service based in Alford and the new Housing team also based in Aberdeen city centre.

Opening in Autumn 2024, we are seeking an exceptional individual to be part of our team at our brand new Care Inspectorate registered residential rehabilitation service in West Aberdeenshire. You'll be supported by a charitable organisation with extensive experience in launching and managing top-tier registered care services.

Aligned with our vision of empowering individuals impacted by substance use and associated needs, we're collaborating with national and local partners to deliver safe and effective residential care services. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that every individual we support receives the highest quality of care and guidance.

Your role in our therapeutic community will be key. You will manage a caseload, assess the people who use our service and manage their recovery/care plans. It will mean developing and applying a range of therapeutic approaches to meet their individual needs, whether that’s employment, education, health etc. You’ll be the one who sees that everything is coordinated from the moment they’re referred to us to the time that they move home.

As a Therapeutic Worker, you will support individuals accessing the residential rehabilitation programme to achieve outcomes that help create long-term recovery. Using the Therapeutic Community “community as method” model you will empower individuals, families and communities to be confident about recovery.

You will support the day to day running of the therapeutic community, ensuring residents’ needs are met and the best possible care is provided in an environment that promotes a culture of recovery. Whilst also being confident to deliver therapeutic groups, activities, and specialist interventions in accordance with the TC manual and the needs of the service.

Previous experience is desirable, however not essential. Therapeutic Workers come from many different backgrounds and experiences, and you may have the skills required. We are seeking dedicated individuals, based on your values, willingness to learn new skills and the compassion to deliver the best service possible to our residents.

This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours per week. You will be expected to work a rolling rota which includes evening and weekend working.
