Role

Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP is looking for a Regional Comms and Engagement Officer to join her team.

Working for a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP)

MSPs are employers in their own right. Under their employment, you will become part of a team supporting them in carrying out their duties. You'll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying issues of importance to constituents within the region
  • Keeping your knowledge of policy areas and local issues up to date and briefing MSP and team regularly
  • Researching local issues and campaigns
  • Building and maintaining relationships with regional stakeholders
  • Identifying, setting up and attending engagement opportunities e.g., town hall events, visits, round tables, local fairs/events etc
  • Producing materials that effectively communicate the work of the office to constituents and stakeholders.
  • Keeping up to date with current media developments in the region
  • Developing, drafting, maintaining and distributing regular newsletters and/or updates
  • Corresponding with stakeholders, including constituents and campaign groups where needed.
  • Producing high quality comms briefings (key messages etc.), graphics, digital and written materials.
  • Meeting constituents on a wide range of issues, including those of a sensitive nature and escalating accordingly.
  • Spot opportunities to promote the work of the office.
  • Corresponding with constituents
  • Compiling and issuing responses to campaign emails
  • Keeping casework up to date and responding to public enquiries
  • Monitoring trends in issues/constituent concerns to escalate for parliamentary or other intervention

Digital comms

  • Maintaining information systems to support communications and data protection.
  • Reviewing social media analytics and developing creative engagement methods for social media accounts.
  • Maintaining and growing social media presence
  • Updating and maintaining website
  • Drafting and posting website and social media content
  • Updating other team members

About You

Requirements

  • Have an interest in politics with the confidence to represent a Member of the Scottish Parliament
  • Experience of researching issues and briefing on them
  • Experience in organising, running and reporting engagement events/discussions
  • Experience in digital and traditional communications
  • Experience in updating websites and social media in a professional (paid or unpaid) capacity
  • Demonstrable ability to foster good working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Have flexibility in using relevant IT skills and writing styles, covering both traditional and newer forms of media
  • Good organisational skills
  • Demonstrable teamwork skills

Desirable

  • Experience of delivering campaigns.
  • Experience working in politics.
  • Be steeped in the region, ideally with lived experience of Glasgow but most importantly knowing it, its people and issues, well
  • Experience in using Adobe Premiere Pro to high standard in a work or voluntary capacity.
  • Experience in using caseworker.mp.
  • Experience in strategic planning for campaigns, particularly in relation to social media.
