Role

This is a varied and busy permanent role that would suit someone with excellent organisational skills and a keen attention to detail. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you'll join a small team of people dedicated to Volunteer Edinburgh’s mission – to build strong social connections, reduce inequalities and support vibrant communities through volunteers and volunteering activities.

Around half of the role involves administration work, essential to the smooth running of the organisation - office and HR admin, managing facilities, equipment and office supplies, and assisting colleagues and volunteers. The other half of the role involves finance tasks and bookkeeping, primarily using Xero, a user-friendly online accounting system.

Volunteer Edinburgh is committed to creating a positive, supportive culture where employees and volunteers can thrive. Working for Volunteer Edinburgh will offer you: 7% employer pension contribution; opportunities to learn within the organisation and outside it; an established support and supervision framework, including six-weekly meetings with your line manager; and an employer-supported volunteering policy that provides paid time off to volunteer. Salaries are contractually linked to local government pay, meaning your pay increases in line with the public sector. On top of this we offer a generous leave entitlement of 29 days plus eight public holidays, pro rata for part-time employees.

This role is part-time and the hours may be worked over three, four or five days, Monday to Friday.

About you

As well as being able to manage a busy workload with competing priorities, the ideal candidate will be comfortable learning and working with systems and processes, adapting them to improve efficiency where possible. You’ll be highly numerate as well as confident and experienced in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. While experience of basic financial administration and/or bookkeeping is expected, there are opportunities to learn more of this on the job. Excellent communication skills are essential as you’ll be working with colleagues and volunteers in a busy office.

Location

This role is based at our main office. Since we serve the public, all staff take part in supporting our Core Services team. We’re therefore unable to offer remote or hybrid working. However our terms and conditions recognise that colleagues sometimes need flexibility and we have a range of polices which support well-being and a good work life balance.
