Role

The Scottish Government has recently confirmed grant funding for the establishment of a regional Climate Action Network Hub in West Lothian. The Hub will form part of a strategic Scotland-wide network of such regional hubs across Scotland to offer networking, support and encouragement of community led climate action.

The employing body will be West Lothian Climate Action Network Hub. The strategic direction for the Hub will be provided in the first instance by WLCAN Hub Directors but will evolve through the Hub membership. Line management of the Senior Development Worker will be provided by Hub Directors and the staff by the Senior Development Worker.

Funding for the Hub is fully confirmed for the remainder of 2023-24 while grant support for 2024-25 is agreed in principle at this stage, pending final agreement on the Scottish Government budgets for that year. However, we have been advised by the Scottish Government to recruit staff for both this year and next with that caveat.

In addition to their work in West Lothian, the Senior Development Worker will play an active part in the wider Hub network attending monthly Hub meetings, quarterly Stakeholder Working Group meetings and enabling opportunities for learning across the National Hub network.

This is an exciting time to be involved in community-led climate action and for the successful applicants to make their mark.

The aim of the Development Worker is to contribute to the delivery of the WLCAN Hub, build connection and understanding across community groups and create structures to enable the adoption of more strategic and collaborative approaches to the climate emergency across and between community groups, public and third sector partners. The Development Worker will be as inclusive as possible to ensure that no communities or groups are excluded from the support available from the Hub and will contribute in the recruitment, training and support of volunteers.
