Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by
cancer; this role will play a valuable part in supporting the services we offer. Our vision is to deliver a
person centred, accessible, holistic family support service for children and young people with a cancer
diagnoses, affected by the diagnosis of someone close to them, or bereaved from cancer.
We are looking for a caring and compassionate Family Support Practitioner to deliver high-quality emotional, social
and practical support to children and young people who are affected by cancer. Children and Young People Support
is one of our 8 core services delivered by our Care Services Team.
A knowledge of the impact of cancer on families, together with the experience and confidence to undertake work with
children and young people is essential, with an ability to assess and respond to need according to emotional,
psychological and intellectual development and apply appropriate interventions and creative therapeutic
approaches.
You will have demonstratable professional experience of developing meaningful relationships and engaging with
individuals in a person-centred way, providing support to children and/or young people, both individually and
within a group environment.
Reporting to our Children and Young People Services Lead, you will be joining an established and experienced team and
will be responsible for providing expert support to help meet the emotional, practical and social needs of
children and young people affected by cancer.
This is a full-time role based over 35 hours / 5 days per week, worked between Monday to Friday within our Support
Centres in Kilmarnock and Ayr, and so a driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential. We also require
flexibility in relation to ‘after school’ activity, with regular evening (one per week) and occasional weekend
work.
This role offers a 3-year fixed term contract, funded by the National Lottery
