Role

Sacro’s mission is to deliver life-changing services that empower people, give hope and protection, and help to build safe communities.

Sacro’s current Veteran’s Mentoring Services is developing an exciting new project called ‘Changing Steps’. This post is split between providing support within HMP Glenochil (up to 3 days per week) and the wider community. The service aims to support people who have completed service with the Armed Forces and have a criminal conviction for a sexual offence and are nearing liberation from custody.

The service will focus on working with this group of service users, who often find themselves socially isolated from traditional supports and excluded from many community resources. The post holder will assist veterans to recognise and develop their life skills including, addressing their fears, supporting them to access external agencies and partners, including our own Veterans Mentoring Services. This will enable service users to build the confidence to make critical changes in their lives. These critical changes include addressing their offending behaviour, taking responsibility for their behaviour, support to engage with statutory and voluntary services, making positive choices about free time and using the ‘Good Lives’ model to live safely in the community offence free.

The post holder should be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently is required. A lived experience of the military or experience as part of a military lifestyle would be highly desirable for this post. Experience of inter-agency working advocacy and support are essential. A commitment to Sacro’s value base is crucial, as this type of work can be challenging. Experience of working within the Criminal Justice system is highly desirable.

A valid driving licence and access to a car is essential for this post.

Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) will be a requirement for these posts. Ability to pass Scottish Prison Service enhanced security and compliance with their mandatory physical training is required.

We offer some great benefits, including family friendly policies, flexible and hybrid working and work-life balance. We also have generous annual leave entitlement, employee wellbeing scheme, cycle to work scheme, pension scheme and death in service, enhanced company sick pay. We will offer learning and development, progression and qualifications with the opportunity for growth and development.

We welcome applications from individuals who share Sacro’s aims and values and want to engage with those we support to help them move on to a more secure, settled and fulfilling life and value diversity from all sections of the community.
