Role

A significant presence in Scottish society and civic life, the Church has ambitious and inspiring programmes to address the needs of those whom we serve.

The Head of Finance and General Treasurer has overall responsibility for the finances, financial management and income strategy of the charity, the Church of Scotland, with an annual turnover of around £100m. The role holder will lead the further development and delivery of an effective, robust financial strategy underpinned by sound financial governance to ensure financial accountability and value for money at all levels within the organisation.

This is a key position at executive level which reports directly to the Chief Officer. The successful candidate will be a credible and highly effective senior leader with the ability to command confidence and will have an empathy with the vision and aspirations of the Church. The role holder will work collaboratively to manage and advise the Church of financial risk and opportunities. They will also manage the Stewardship and Finance Department and oversee the accounting systems and controls, ensuring that the charity meets its legal and regulatory obligations relating to financial and taxation matters and safeguards the charity’s financial assets.
