The Senior Support Worker (SSW) will support the management team in developing and maintaining the organisation’s standards relating to autism specific, person centred practices and implementation of the service development plan. Liaising with the organisation’s practice support team, the SSW will assist in the preparation of support and communication plans, ensuring consistent practices throughout support networks.

The Senior Support Worker will assist in the supervision and direction of the staff team and in maintaining the high standards of support in line with the organisation’s quality standards and mission statement. Knowledge of current legislation and regulations relating to the social care sector and the requirements of the Care Inspectorate is essential for this role. The post holder will also be expected to commit to on-call duties.

Given the nature of this role, successful applicants must register with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or equivalent regulatory body.

Job Purpose

To provide operational and project HR advice and support to managers and staff ensuring employment issues are handled in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements and meets or exceeds good practice.

Required Skills/Experience

• 5+ years’ experience in a similar role.
• CIPD Level 5 or equivalent.
• Experience in a range of employee relations issues, including high-volume complex case management such as attendance, conduct, capability, and grievance. You will be juggling multiple cases at any given time, so you need to thrive while working under pressure.
• The ability to champion best practise, deliver change and continuously improve our processes.
• Up to date knowledge of employment law.

• High level of self-motivation, able to meet several deadlines.
• Excellent organisational & communication skills with great attention to detail.

We are currently recruiting Project Workers to work within our Edinburgh services. You will be joining our dedicated team supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism to reach their individual goals and ambitions.

Rate:£12.60 per hour

Working Hours: 10:00 – 16:00, Monday – Friday, with full time hours at 30 per week

Contract Type:Permanent, Full Time & Part Time: we’d love to hear from all applicants interested in part time or full time work, however we won’t be able to consider applicants looking to work less than 2 days per week.

Holiday:30 days pro rata, enhanced at 3 years’ service by an additional day (pro rata) per year thereafter, up to a maximum of 5 days. Upmo regularly closes during the Christmas/New Year period.

About the role

As a Project Worker, you will be part of an enthusiastic and creative team who provide daily support to adults with learning disabilities and autism as they participate in workshop activities of their choosing within our site-based services, and café sites.

This role includes supporting students on a 1:1 basis, facilitating workshops, and supporting people with personal care tasks throughout the day such as assistance with eating and drinking, toileting needs, and other private hygiene needs.

For this vacancy, we are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with musical and performance skills, but will consider those with all round skills for our services, which run varied workshops throughout the week which involve the following areas: art & crafts, IT, music, drama, dance, cooking, gardening, and outdoor activities.

While previous experience in care or support is highly advantageous, it is not required as we provide full training and ongoing support to our staff team.

About Us

The Elsie Normington Foundation (ENF) is a Highland-based charity supporting children and young people with disabilities and complex needs. Our Haven Centre in Smithton is home to the Haven Café, a welcoming community café open to the public and centre users. All profits from the café directly support ENF’s charitable work across the Highlands.

The café also provides supported training and work experience opportunities for young adults with additional support needs, helping them build confidence, skills, and independence in a safe, inclusive environment.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and organised Café Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of the Haven Café. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for delivering excellent hospitality while supporting and developing a team of volunteers, including young adults with learning disabilities and additional support needs.

This role suits someone who thrives in a community-focused setting and wants to combine strong café management skills with genuine social impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operation of the café, including opening and closing procedures
• Deliver excellent customer service and maintain a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere
• Supervise, mentor, and train café volunteers, adapting tasks to individual abilities
• Ensure full compliance with Food Safety, Environmental Health, Health & Safety, COSHH, and safeguarding requirements
• Operate barista equipment and oversee food preparation where required
• Develop and maintain menus, including allergen and dietary information
• Manage stock control, supplier relationships, orders, and deliveries
• Use the EPOS system, complete financial reconciliation, and maintain accurate records
• Oversee cleaning schedules, risk assessments, and quality assurance processes
• Promote the café locally and support social media activity
• Work with senior management and trustees to improve profitability and explore growth opportunities such as external catering

Essential Criteria

• Proven experience in a café or hospitality management role
• Strong knowledge of Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Environmental Health legislation
• Experience supervising, mentoring, or supporting young people with learning disabilities or additional support needs
• Barista experience and confidence using coffee machines
• Experience using EPOS systems and handling cash reconciliation
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• Ability to manage stock, suppliers, and equipment effectively
• A patient, empathetic approach with the ability to adapt training to individual needs

• Experience working with young people with disabilities or complex needs
• Menu planning and external catering experience
• Budgeting, business development, or income generation experience
• Marketing or social media promotion experience
