Role

Harmeny Education Trust is a sector-leading children’s charity providing therapeutic care and education for children with complex additional support needs. We currently work with children of primary up to early secondary stage, both on a day and all-year-round residential basis, with exciting plans to extend our service offering to an older age group.

Harmeny is situated in a beautiful 35-acre woodland estate, which includes residential and education accommodation, community garden, orchard, wildlife habitats, children’s play areas and a mountain bike track. Harmeny is located in Balerno on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Pentland Hills; we are easily accessible by bus and there is ample parking.

We are seeking three Residential Child Care Workers (Nights) to join our Care team on a part-time employed basis. The post-holder will be responsible for all childcare needs through the night as well as the informal management and organisation of the Night Awake team.

The successful candidate will work an average of 1216 hours per year (roughly 121 nights per year) on a rota basis, on a three nights on / six nights off pattern, 10pm-8am. There will be opportunities to work additional night shifts to cover for colleagues (e.g. holidays) but this will not be compulsory.

Applicants must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) in line with the SSSC requirements for residential childcare workers (RCCWs).

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced practitioners to join a friendly organisation making a difference to the lives of vulnerable children in Scotland. We are highly committed to the professional development of all our employees, and as well as a comprehensive induction the successful candidate will have access to regular training and development opportunities.

Harmeny is a values-led organisation and a good fit with our ethos is as important to us as having relevant experience.

A fuller job description and person specification can be found using the link below.

  • Enhanced sick pay of up to 13 weeks (pro-rata) (after probation)
  • Pension scheme
  • Policies and practices that promote a healthy work-life balance and wellbeing
