The role

Based at our office in Glasgow, and working within the Fundraising, Communications and Policy team to research topics, deliver PR and media assets and activities across Scotland to highlight the work Action for Children does and issues relating to disadvantaged children, young people and families.

As a News and Media Relations Officer you'll liaise with our Leadership Team in Scotland as well as the UK-wide team to coordinate and our strategy and focus. Your role will include pitching and selling in stories, building solid relationships with journalists and making sure Action for Children's voice is heard. You'll also collaborate with our services and service users to highlight the issues they face.

You will make a difference by:

  • Creating relationships with news journalists, producers, social media to promote the strategy and services of Action for Children.
  • Working in the field with members of the media and service users and staff.
  • Raising the profile of Action for Children.
  • Working closely with campaigns and fundraising and the leadership team.
  • Taking your turn on the on-call rota for the wider Communications team.

You will need:

  • Experience of working in a charity or a press office is desirable.
  • Experience of working with children and families is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • The ability to collaborate with other teams and departments.
  • A strong News and PR sense.
  • Flexibility to support out of hours team as and when required.
  • The ability to work under pressure.
