Purpose of Job - A Multiply Funded Project

The Project Coordinator will lead a team of three Project Workers to deliver an adult engagement programme across Shettleston, in particular supporting parents / carers of children at three primary schools in our area – Eastbank, St. Timothy’s and Thorntree Primary schools. In addition, we will deliver similar support to parents at St. Andrew’s Secondary as well as a programme of support within Fuse itself, targeted at the wider community.

The programme is targeted at those needing the confidence to take the initial steps to improving their numeracy and so will be relatively light touch, acting as a “gateway” to other numeracy support offered through Multiply. Our intention is not to duplicate existing numeracy provision but to complement and add value to it. Where we can best do this is by engaging potential participants in a way that others cannot because of our position and existing relationships and focusing specifically on light-touch confidence building and basic skills elements. We anticipate that this will encourage our participants to engage with further, more intensive numeracy support, and we will set specific targets for us referring participants to these other providers.

We anticipate that take-up at a school’s level will disproportionately be from female parents / carers, albeit we will encourage participation from both females and males. We expect that wider community provision will place a particular emphasis on encouraging males to take part and programmes and promotional activity will be constructed to encourage this.

Some of the initial platforms for engagement may be sessions which will be simple entry level participation. Walking Groups, health and fitness and baking have all been used in the past to build confidence and relationships.

Typically, these programmes will involve:

• 1-hour sessions over an approximate 6-week timescale; this will be enough to make a difference without being off-putting to participants, who have not previously had experience of such support. Support will be delivered on a small group (and sometimes individual) basis as required.
• This will be an introductory programme to engage people that would otherwise not take up numeracy support due to stigma and / or a lack of confidence; it will act as a “gateway” to more intensive support from other providers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and engaging with all young people attending our club, ensuring they remain at the heart of our club's activities. A key aspect of this role is to develop and implement the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme for our club members, providing them with exciting opportunities for personal growth and development. Additionally, the Co-ordinator will establish professional relationships with DofE providers, particularly DofE Scotland and Edinburgh City Council DofE, to deliver the award. Regenfx Youth Trust have established the first ever visible Youth Recovery Service in South Lanarkshire. We work with 13 – 25yr olds who are affected by problematic alcohol & substance use. The service is known as The GIVIT.

We use a blend of Youth Work, rapid access to CBT Counsellors backed up with a fully supported Recovery Model to help young people consider their own personal recovery needs.

Due to the exceptionally high demand for the service and The GIVIT exceeding their targets in the first year by 92%, we are expanding our skilled staff team to include an Family Navigator specifically to support the families of the young people referred to The GIVIT.

The Family Navigator will provide 1 to 1 support and possible groupwork for families. You will be given full training and excellent support from your colleagues including the opportunity to shadow in the first instance. You must be able to build solid relationships with young people based on trust, mutual respect, care and compassion. You will need to be a natural motivator who can work with a small caseload effectively.

This is a 7-day a week service that includes some evening & weekends. All work is done in person we have no working from home arrangements.

We are particularly interested in people with experience in Family Work and or the Recovery Field, but most importantly, people who are driven, genuinely interested in young people and who would welcome a challenge like no other supported by a very skilled staff team.

You will have experience of supporting families and increasing their uptake of support services to improve making connections to external support. A good knowledge of problematic alcohol and drug use and or experience in the Recovery Field is desirable.

You must be able to build solid relationships with young people based on trust, mutual respect, care and compassion. You will need to be a natural motivator who can work with a small caseload effectively.
