Role

Merry-go-round Glasgow is a social enterprise and charity in the Southside. Operational since 2012, we support local families with high quality, low-cost children’s goods and through inclusive events and workshops.

We have a boutique style shop in Strathbungo selling everything for babies and children up to 5 years including maternity. We run a supportive events programme for families, and we work with over 120 agencies across the city to provide free packs of goods to families in need. We have a skilled and motivated staff team of 9 and are an inclusive and fun place to work. We are also a Revolve certified store (revolvereuse.com) which means that we work to high standards, and are committed to excellence.

We are looking for someone motivated and enthusiastic for the role of Community Engagement Officer. This new role has been created to ensure that we are continuing to respond to, and meet the community’s needs.

The Community Engagement Officer is a key role that will ensure that everyone in our community is aware of, and benefiting from all of the services that we offer including low-cost goods, family support through events, volunteering opportunities, and distribution of free goods. The postholder will actively engage with the community and partners to encourage everyone to benefit, especially those that have additional barriers.

The role is responsible for maintaining and building on existing relationships with partners as well as seeking and developing new partnerships and relationships within the community.

We are looking for someone who is an excellent communicator, that can engage with people from varying backgrounds, and with experience of using different methods to engage including social media. The postholder will develop relationships and opportunities with partners and other social, environmental and

local businesses, to further our aims and better support families.

The role covers two main areas of work - developing and rolling out a community engagement and communications plan and coordinating and developing our existing partnership programme. The community engagement and communications plan will enable us to clearly communicate our aims, benefits and achievements, as well as helping us to engage hard to reach communities.

Our partnership programme, operational since 2014 working with over 100 partner agencies, now distributes around 70 free packs of goods every month to families across Glasgow. The Community Engagement Officer will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with our partner agencies, managing referrals, fulfilling referral packs to a high standard, coordinating our voucher scheme and organising pop ups in communities.

The post holder will be self-motivated, able to drive their own workload, and with enthusiasm to succeed. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate = effectively both verbally and in written communications with a wide range of audiences.
