The Company
Based in the north of Glasgow, Maryhill Housing has been established for over 40 years. We own over 3000 rented properties and provide a factoring service to over 700 units. We offer a rewarding work environment and as a valued employee you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to both our local community and to people’s lives.
Background
Maryhill Housing and Queens Cross Housing Association overarching aims and outcomes are to tackle the social and economic issues within the communities which they serve. We made a commitment to challenge poverty with the aim of identifying what we, as Registered Social Landlords, can do to alleviate the impact of poverty on our communities. Fuel poverty affects many of our customer’s lives so we made a joint submission for funding to deliver an energy advice service. An award of funding was secured from the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme for 2.5 Energy Advisors to deliver our project: Energy Saving in North West Glasgow. This is a new service for both organisations with advisors playing a vital role in the development and growth of the project, responsible for driving the promotion, uptake and delivery of energy advice.
The Role
The role of Energy Adviser is to provide an energy advice service to the tenants and factored owners of Maryhill Housing Association and Queens Cross Housing Association. The service will educate people about their household energy consumption, develop skills and confidence to take more control of their energy use and bills, provide advice on tariffs and fuel switching. This will be delivered by making home energy advice visits, talks and workshops on saving energy, and attending events to raise the profile of the service. The post holder plays a vital role in the development and growth of this new service and will be responsible for driving the promotion and delivery of energy advice leading to behavioural change and a reduction in fuel bills.
The successful candidate is required to have a City & Guilds Energy Awareness qualification. You will have experience of providing energy advice and advocacy which enable customers to understand their energy bills. You will also have experience of liaising with energy providers to provide better outcomes for customers. As you will be working directly with tenants you will have experience in working with people from a wide range of backgrounds, groups and communities. You will have excellent communication skills, verbal, presentational and written. You must also be IT literate with skills in the use of common applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
