Role

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is one of the world’s top four botanic gardens based on the quality, breadth and depth of our science, plant collections, public engagement, and education. We are looking to recruit an exceptional Development Manager, focused on our Trusts and Foundations giving to cover a period of maternity leave. This role is being offered as a 9 month fixed term contract but this may be extended to up to 12 months.

Working closely with the Head of Major Gifts, senior RBGE leaders, and staff across the Garden to drive income generation, coordinate fundraising approaches to trusts and foundations, and write detailed proposals to secure gifts for priority projects. This will include working on the high-profile Edinburgh Biomes project, a hugely ambitious estates masterplan that is central to our response to the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis.

You will manage a portfolio of Trust and Foundations, with particular focus on high-value partnerships; lead on negotiations with major trusts for RBGE; and identify strategic funding opportunities and new partnerships which are aligned with the values, ethos, and ambitions of RBGE, and which also meet partner objectives.

Applicants should be educated to degree level or have previous, relevant work experience in a similar role. You should have experience of Trusts and Foundations fundraising, customer relationship management, strategic planning, and managing a portfolio of donor prospects. You should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail, as well as strong influencing and negotiating skills, with the ability and inclination to meet representatives from major trusts and foundations and to ask them for significant financial support.

Full details of the post, including a job description and person specification can be downloaded fromour website.
