About Aberlour’s New Universal Support Service

We will provide early support and advice to families who may feel they have become a bit stuck or who are looking for some information, advice, signposting or referrals to other services.

From September all families with children under the age of 18, living in Perth and Kinross, can contact us directly to access our new service. Working alongside families we will offer personalised support on family matters, when they need it most, in locations to suit them.

As part of this team you would provide a service and lifeline for these families.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a friendly, efficient individual who can act as the first point of contact for families and professionals seeking support and advice.

You will help identify family needs and signpost to relevant services and agencies to achieve positive outcomes for children, young people and their families.

You are someone who will have strong communication, organisation and team working skills. You will be resourceful, IT literate and thrive on helping children and families overcome the challenges presented by everyday modern life.

Hours of work will mainly be Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, with an expectation to be flexible if needed to attend events.

About Sustain Perth

Aberlour Sustain Perth is taking forward Aberlour’s ground-breaking ‘Edge of Care’ service. Sustain is a model of early intervention and engagement which offers personalised, flexible and responsive support to children, young people and their families. The approach seeks to maximise the potential of family strengths and assets, getting them access to the required support when and where they need it, enabling children and young people to remain living at home rather than moving into residential care.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a Community Support Practitioner to join our team, working 37.5 hours per week. As this post includes an unsocial hours’ allowance, you are required to be flexible with your approach, planning your own diary, and available to work weekends, early mornings, evenings and public holidays to meet the needs of the families you would support. It is also essential that you have access to a car due to the geographical layout of Perth and Kinross.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting children, young people and their families to achieve the best possible outcomes as they live and grow within their communities. Our aim is to ensure that children, young people and families are supported to build on their strengths, assets and interests to develop enduring capacity and resilience. Working in partnership with parents, you will support them to develop their parenting skills, self-esteem and confidence and encourage self-reflection.

Applicants should be dynamic and creative and be able to deliver flexible, person-centred services to vulnerable children and families which is playful, warm, accepting, curious, tenacious and empathetic. Make Do and Grow CIC is a not-for-profit social enterprise, focussed on supporting growing families, developing creativity and encouraging reuse.

Based in a retail unit in Burleigh Street, Govan, Make Do and Grow sells low cost, preloved clothing and toys for growing children. Within the shop area, families are encouraged to pause and play with the toys, read a book or draw on the chalkboard wall. Local partnerships support struggling families with shop vouchers, providing much needed childrens resources with choice and dignity. Meanwhile, the creative workshop area offers free drop in arts and crafts and after school art clubs throughout the week. All activities reuse scrap and waste materials wherever possible, making activities replicable at home and encouraging reuse and repurpose.

The Toy Library, based five minutes walk away at 901 Govan Road, provides high quality toys on a membership based borrow and return model. Families have access to educational and play inspired toys which support learning and development and facilitate reuse over new. Play sessions from brick building to board games bring families together, reducing isolation for parents/carers and increasing wellbeing through creativity and play.

We currently have vacancies for Non Executive Board members (voluntary) at a critical time for Make Do and Grow. The organisation is nearing the end of a 3 year development plan which has forged strong roots within the local community, built core partnerships and established need and services to support, including the launch of The Toy Library two years ago.

The organisation is looking to consolidate current activity and grow, alongside the families we support. As a new Board Member you will play a key part in designing and enabling the development plan for the next 3- 5 years and improving the governance framework to effectively monitor performance. This will be clearly focussed upon delivery of high quality arts, play and reuse services for families and young people across Govan, wider Glasgow and beyond.

We are looking for dynamic, forward thinking and enthusiastic people from a variety of backgrounds to contribute to Make Do and Grow’s emerging future and are particularly keen to hear from people living within the Greater Govan area and / or with relevant HR, Financial or IT/Digital Communications experience. We will provide tailored training and development, alongside experienced Board Members who can share learning and experience. The board meet monthly.

About Sustain Clackmannanshire

Aberlour Child Care Trust has recently launched a family outreach service, Aberlour Sustain Clackmannanshire. This service works alongside families, communities and partners to offer caring and responsive support to young people and families. Sustain Clackmannanshire delivers the support families need, when they need it, every day of the year. The aim of the service is to ensure that children and young people can continue to flourish at home, at school and in their local community.

Working with Social Work Services, this innovative and creative new service focuses on supporting young people aged 0 - 18 years, who may be on the ‘edge of care’ so that they remain living with their family in their local communities.

Our Service works with young people and their families to enhance relationships, build on existing strengths and interests, help build confidence and encourage new community connections. Our aim is to help all families feel safe, confident, capable and included. Our approach has been developed through consultation with families and partners.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people, families and communities. Someone who is flexible and shares our vision that collaborative working and relationship based early intervention is the best option for young people and families who are feeling overwhelmed or excluded.

Not afraid to test new ways of working, you will bring a fresh, caring, compassionate and collaborative approach which responds empathically to the needs of young people and their families. The work will include early mornings, evenings and weekends. You will have experience of direct practice within this field of work, including child/adult protection issues as well as having experience of working with children and young people.

You will work within a variety of locations in the Clackmannanshire area, including the office base in Alloa, family homes, schools and community settings.
