We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Strategic Partnerships Team to work within the City of Edinburgh Council to help deliver our shared priorities for their new Active Travel Action Plan.
As a GIS Officer you will report to the Partnerships Manager and work closely with City of Edinburgh Council staff and Sustrans colleagues in the Strategic Partnerships and Mobility Planning Teams.
You will support the update and finalisation of a cycling demand and network planning tool, for which knowledge of the programming language R will be highly advantageous. You will also apply your GIS analysis skills to support strategic planning of neighbourhood scale interventions in Edinburgh, such as low traffic neighbourhoods, and updating the city’s GIS street typology dataset.
Another key part of the role will be sharing project-related knowledge and expertise with Sustrans, to inform Scotland-wide approaches.
This role will not involve regular travel as the post is primarily of based at the City of Edinburgh Council offices, with the option to work from home part of the time. We offer flexible working patterns to suit individual circumstances. On occasion, there may be travel, and possible overnight stays required.
About you
You should have demonstrable knowledge and experience in GIS spatial analysis, with proficiency in evaluating complex datasets and presenting findings.
With experience of using common programming languages (ideally R), you will be practiced in managing and working with large spatial and non-spatial datasets.
As a strategic thinker, you will have the ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision.
General knowledge of cycle networks and low traffic neighbourhoods, as well as familiarity with Edinburgh’s street network would be advantageous, but are not essential.
