Role

If you are interested in a rewarding job with an established local charity involved in the relief of poverty, hardship and hunger in Stirlingshire then this could be the job for you!

About Start Up Stirling

Our charity began in 1994 when a group of local churches started to collect donated household goods and redistribute them to people who had been homeless and were moving into social housing. In response to growing local need we started our foodbank service in 2012 in an effort to tackle food insecurity and hunger. In 2017 we introduced an additional pilot service that offers additional tailored support for people experiencing hardship in Stirlingshire.

The whole operation, including our Board of Trustees, is run by volunteers (currently around 110), supported by a small group of paid staff. We work closely with a network of around thirty-five local referral partners, including Citizens Advice Bureau, Women’s Aid, Salvation Army Rural Housing, NHS, Stirling Council and local schools to identify those people that need our support and help.

Main aspects of the post:

General Management

  • To coordinate the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures and good practice in relation to volunteer recruitment and training thereby providing an effective infrastructure to ensure our volunteer base adds value and is in line with our legal, financial and other operational requirements.
  • To manage the day to day operational aspects of initial volunteer engagement, recruitment and induction procedures, including acting as a first point of contact for those who volunteer and those who might support them, making them feel valued and supported.
  • To manage the development of relationships with local organisations to afford volunteer opportunities with the charity to local people from varying backgrounds and circumstances.

People Management

  • To coordinate across the organisation appropriate processes for the identification of volunteering opportunities and the management of volunteer contributions in conjunction with other staff members as necessary.
  • To arrange appropriate induction and training, in conjunction with other staff members as necessary, for employees and volunteers joining the charity.
  • To liaise with partner agencies who provide volunteers e.g. Forth Valley College, Stirling Council Criminal Justice, Employability etc, ensuring that appropriate training and supervision is provided when such volunteers are joining the charity.

Operations & Risk Management

  • To coordinate the ongoing monitoring of volunteer opportunities and skill requirements in order to optimise the efficient and effective use of volunteer resources in support of the charities activities.
  • To develop and maintain appropriate volunteer experience monitoring and feedback procedures, involving the appropriate use of exit interviews and surveys to support internal and external reporting requirements including those specified by funding bodies.
  • To ensure that adequate arrangements exist for adhering to regulatory requirements relating to the protection of vulnerable groups (PVG or equivalent), including the maintenance of appropriate PVG accreditation and other relevant records.

Financial Management

  • To manage specified financial budgets, including volunteer training and related volunteer expenses.
  • Ensure support for the Fundraising & Community Engagement Manager from Volunteers where and when appropriate.
