Role

Wishaw Credit Union Limited is a not for profit community-based financial co-operative and a member of the Scottish League of Credit Unions. We are authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

We have been serving the community of Wishaw and the surrounding areas for 25 years, encouraging our members to accumulate savings so as to make available loans and additional services for the wider benefit of all our membership.

An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced finance officer/book-keeper to join the team at Wishaw Credit Union.

This is busy and varied role serving our growing membership in the local area. You will be joining the team at an exciting time as we prepare to move to our new modern office in the heart of Wishaw, as well as launching our new online presence.

Reporting directly to the office manager, the role includes:

Duties

  • Ensure all income is accounted for, reconciled, and managed in a timely manner.
  • To manage a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting tasks to ensure accurate financial management reporting.
  • Help preparation regulatory returns and annual audit.
  • Support the office manager manage the credit control function including dealing with member queries and external partners (lawyers/sheriff officers)
  • Develop and maintain an efficient, high quality system of internal control and reporting.
  • Provide analysis of financial information to the Board of Directors as and when required.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Credit Union’s Business Plan
  • Support the Board of Directors maintain the financial health of the credit union, identifying issues that may impact financial performance

Essential Criteria

The successful candidate will be a reliable, motivated and enthusiastic individual, committed to achieving high standards with a flexible approach, capable of working on their own initiative and as a part of a team and can demonstrate:

  • Minimum of 5 years accountancy experience including detailed knowledge of double entry book-keeping
  • Well established financial and commercial acumen.
  • Ability to multi-task and work calmly under pressure.
  • Strong reporting, organisational, numerical, analytical, problem-solving and administration skills demonstrating attention to detail to ensure the Credit Union meets its responsibilities as a regulated entity.
  • Have the ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent IT skills across various applications including Microsoft office especially MS Excel.
  • Effective inter-personal communication skills for a team environment are essential
  • To be proactive, positive and show enthusiasm, being reliable and punctual

Desirable Criteria:

It would also be advantageous:

  • To have had previous bookkeeping experience working in a credit union or financial services industry
  • Professional or part qualified accounting qualification (ACCA or equivalent)
  • To be proactive in learning and development
