Role
VAO is an established and dynamic local charity, with fifty-five years’ experience of developing, supporting and advocating on behalf of local voluntary and community organisations in Orkney. VAO is also Orkney’s Third Sector Interface (TSI).
Due to impending retirement, we are seeking our next Chief Executive to take forward an exciting vision that addresses the needs of Orkney’s third sector and communities.
You will champion the third sector and foster meaningful relationships and partnerships within and across sectors ensuring the third sector has a voice in local and national policy and planning.
You will be responsible for overseeing finances, organisational development and operational management. You will ensure that VAO continues to deliver services to the highest standard whilst increasing its profile and developing income streams. You will also encourage and support VAO’s skilled team.
You will be an experienced leader, ethical, creative and self-motivated, a skilled communicator able to confidently act as the public face of VAO; you will be passionate about bringing about positive change and improving the lives of the people of Orkney.

To assist in running the Grassy Riggs older people’s drop in. Ensure that older people and carers are well supported by the project. To be an effective team player in the Project. To give regular practical information and support on social care issues and issues of poverty to our members, carers, volunteers and their families.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Funding & Fundraising Development Manager who will play a pivotal part in raising funds and securing our financial sustainability for PKAVS by leading on the delivery of our funding strategy, engaging with individual, corporate, government, legacy and partnership funding channels and working in partnership with each of our services to support them to deliver their funding plans and fundraising activities.

We are looking for a leader who is passionate about organisation effectiveness and development. The successful candidate is likely to have sound experience of finance planning, management and policy and may also have had experience in other relevant areas of business development, governance or people practice. We are looking for an effective programme management expert to support the delivery of a new model of community transport across Dumfries & Galloway. The successful candidate will bring experience of programme and/or project planning, building activity and outcome timelines, gateways and reporting mechanisms and building effective relationships with partners. To be effective in the role, you don’t have to be a community transport expert – there will be access to a range of support and advice.
