Along with many organisations, we are having to adapt and change post-pandemic and manage financial challenges, but we have ambitious plans to continue delivering an excellent service to people in need of counselling and family therapy across the Lothians.

About us

Bright Light provides counselling support for families, children, and young people in both family and individual sessions. Our focus is supporting the positive mental health of the individual in relationship to others - family members, friends, people they encounter including professionals, their communities and with themselves. Established in 1948, our services have developed and evolved considerably over the years.

About the role

To help support the organisation Bright Light seeks skilled and motivated individuals to join our Board of Trustees. As a non-executive member of the Board, you will play a central role in developing strategy, monitoring quality and governance and supporting the effective, and sustainable, delivery of counselling services across the Lothians. You will fulfil a constructive and supportive role in furthering the values and objectives of Bright Light, with a clear understanding of their governance responsibilities. We would particularly like to hear from you if you have experience in HR, IT & digital or fundraising.

We are keen to have a diverse group of Trustees so want to hear from people from different backgrounds and lived experiences, but you do not necessarily have to have experience of the charity sector or being a Trustee before – this is a great opportunity to gain fresh experiences and develop new skills. We do want people who share our values of professionalism, working together, optimism, kindness, and fairness.

There are 4 Board meetings each year, our AGM and an in person strategy day. These alternate between online and in-person and occasionally a mix of both.

An induction programme, including a ‘Trustee buddy’ system, will be provided and we encourage Trustees to join the SCVO Trustees Network. Ongoing training is available to meet identified needs.

With Kids

We are looking for motivated people from all backgrounds who share our values and are excited about how our services can change lives. Our Trustees are responsible for the governance of our charity, making sure that everything runs smoothly and that we are making the biggest difference we possibly can.

With Kids is a Scotland-wide children’s mental health charity and provides an early intervention therapeutic service working with primary and nursery aged children who have experienced trauma, and their families. This includes individual therapeutic support for children, helping them build the personal skills and resilience to cope, alongside practical and emotional support to their parents/carers with a view to building networks of support.

We specialise in the provision of Play Therapy, employing Play, Art and Speech and Language Therapists and Community and Family Support Workers. Much of our work is based in schools or around a particular community. We run a Masters course in Play Therapy in collaboration with Queen Margaret University and we deliver a variety of highly regarded CPD trainings for other professions.

You need passion for our cause, a commitment to sharing your ideas and experiences, and the time to attend and prepare for Board meetings. We need people to bring diverse experiences, to think creatively, challenge the status quo, and have a strategic mindset. You will be welcomed into a supportive team who are ambitious and collaborative.

Trustees meet in person at our Glasgow office every eight weeks from 12 noon to 2pm on a Friday, with a break over the summer months (usually around 6 meetings per year). All Board roles are voluntary.

At Children 1st our ambition is for every child in Scotland to be safe, loved and well with their family. As a charity we offer emotional, practical, and financial support to help families to put children first and campaign to uphold the rights of every child.

An opportunity has arisen for an IT manager to join our enthusiastic and dedicated IT team focused on providing excellent IT services to Children 1st. The role involves the management of IT infrastructure, systems and hardware, overseeing the work of the IT technical team.

Based in Edinburgh, with some home working and visits to sites across Scotland, the successful candidate will bring significant experience of managing cloud hosted IT services. Demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure and Intune, the post holder will be highly motivated with robust problem solving and analytical skills.

The role will involve collaborating with colleagues across the organisation, taking the time to build relationships and understand the needs of the organisation.

Further information

This is a full-time, (35 hours per week) permanent role and while we support flexible working you will be based in Edinburgh and will be required to travel throughout Scotland. Due to this, access to a car is required.
