East Dunbartonshire Women’s Aid’s Children and Young People team provide vital support to children dealing with the trauma of domestic abuse and leaving their home. They ensure that children are given a service which is driven by them and meets their needs. The service includes 1-1 therapeutic support, prevention work and free-play sessions.

This is an outreach post and you will work closely with a job-share partner to provide therapeutic 1-1 support to children and young people across East Dunbartonshire who are living with the impact of domestic abuse. You may also provide support as children move on from refuge. You will work closely with partner organisations, building positive relationships, promoting the service and raising awareness.

The main office base is in Kirkintilloch, but the post holder will be required to travel throughout the area.

Candidates should have an understanding of, and commitment to, the feminist analysis of domestic abuse (or a willingness to learn), experience of interagency working and be willing to work as part of a collective where all staff share management responsibilities.

Applicants must hold a recognised relevant qualification at a minimum of SVQ Level 3 (alternatively, equivalent in childcare qualifications will be considered). We anticipate that successful candidates will have a minimum of two years’ experience in supporting vulnerable children and young people who have been exposed to trauma.

This is a fixed-term post. We have secured funding to enable the successful candidate to work 17.5 hours per week until 30th Sept 2027. We will be actively seeking funding to continue the post beyond this date but it is not guaranteed at this stage.

Posts are subject to a successful PVG scheme check, suitable references and completion of a satisfactory 6-month induction period.

Support is offered to children and young people who are living in our safe accommodation and on an outreach capacity. A critical part of the role also includes providing groupwork and childcare support to enable women to attend our recovery focused programmes. The preferred candidate(s) will have at least 2 years’ experience working with children and young people and casework experience. The successful candidate(s) must be a driver with access to their own vehicle and should have an SVQ level 3 (Children and Young People) or equivalent qualification.

After a recent pay review this role now attracts the hourly rate of pay of £15.73 per hour (£28,628.60 per annum) for a 35-hour working week.

The role of the CYP Support Worker is to offer support to children and young people (CYP) who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse. This work also extends to working with women for the benefit of any children and/or young people.

Minimum qualification requirement: HNC Childhood Practice (SCQF 7) or SVQ Social Services Children and Young People (SCQF Level 7).
