The impact of COVID-19 and the cost of living crisis are pushing many people into debt and financial hardship. Our Money Advice Liaison Service helps clients who are struggling with debt and the cost of living. As part of this team, you can make a real difference by supporting people in your local community and alleviating the many problems caused by financial worries. If you have the desire to help, are a solution focussed team player and are confident in engaging with the public, this could be the role for you.

Castlemilk Citizens Advice Bureau are seeking volunteers to join our Board of Trustees.
Castlemilk Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) was formed in 1979 to provide a holistic advice service to the residents of Glasgow South Side. As a member of the Scottish Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux network, Castlemilk CAB aims to provide free, independent, impartial and confidential advice and information to ensure that people understand their rights and responsibilities, and can express their needs effectively. We campaign and influence to tackle the root cause of the problems people face and work to strengthen their rights.
Castlemilk Citizens Advice Bureau is situated in the shopping centre in Castlemilk and is supported by 8 members of staff and 2 volunteer advisers, plus 3 board members. The Bureau supports individuals with a wide range of general enquiries as well as providing specialist support on topics including benefits, debt, utilities and money matters.
We are currently looking to recruit individuals who live locally and would like to contribute to the local community by joining our Board of Trustees. We are seeking team players who have strategic vision, independent judgement, and a willingness to give time and commitment to help support and develop our organisation.

The Organisation

The Opportunity
As a result of impending retirement, there now exists an exciting opportunity to join the organisation as Head of Finance and General Treasurer. Reporting directly to the Chief Officer as part of a tight-knit Senior Management Team, the Head of Finance will manage a team of approximately 30 people and have overall responsibility for the effective financial management and strategy of a £100m budget, whilst also providing financial oversight and services to several related parties. Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Lead the development and delivery of a robust financial strategy and of effective financial governance, providing advice to a wide range of senior stakeholders
- Work closely with all agencies and departments to develop a culture of value for money throughout the organisation
- Prepare annual and five-year rolling budgets for all areas within the charity
- Provide monthly management accounts, forecasts and other regular financial reports for all relevant stakeholders
- Be responsible for the oversight of the production of the annual audited accounts of the charity plus separately incorporated charities
- Oversee accounting systems and controls, ensuring that the charity meets its legal and regulatory obligations relating to financial and taxation matters; safeguarding the charity’s financial assets
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with several years’ post-qualified experience as a Finance Director or equivalent in a relatively large and complex organisation. Experience of leading, inspiring, managing and developing large teams will be crucial to your success, as will be your ability to influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at a very senior level, primarily through the provision of timeous, meaningful and robust management information to better aid decision making. An outstanding communicator and empathetic listener, you will have the tact, diplomacy and nous to “bring people on the journey”. Experience of working in the charitable/third sector could be an advantage but is by no means essential.

This varied and challenging post requires an experienced person to visit, interview and assess practicing and retired registered nurses and midwives seeking financial assistance from the Fund.
Applications are invited from Qualified Individuals from Health or Social Care Sector, with a minimum of 5 years experience in that field. We currently have a vacancy for a Board member to join our Board of Trustees. As a Trustee Board Member, your responsibilities will include:
- Setting and maintaining the strategic direction of the organisation
- Sharing responsibility for Board decisions
- Maintaining an overview of the organisations financial performance
- Ensuring appropriate governance is in place
- Attend quarterly Board Meetings.
We're particularly looking for applicants with employment law experience, or applicants who have used Dads Rock services in the past.
Remuneration/Expenses
This is an unpaid role however reasonable expenses associated with the role can be reimbursed.
Time commitment:
- You will be expected to commit to serving on the Board for a minimum of three years.
- Board Meetings take place approximately every quarter and are usually on Zoom. Dates for the following calendar year are circulated prior to, and agreed at, the last meeting of the year.
- To represent Dads Rock at other internal and external events depending on your availability.
- To participate in appropriate sub-committee groups – depending on your area of expertise and availability.
- To attend any other meetings and events by agreement of the Board, as well as our Annual General Meeting.
Main duties:
To ensure that Dads Rock:
- Complies with its governing documents, such as our Constitution and Policies
- Pursues its charitable objects as defined in its Constitution
- Applies its resources exclusively in furtherance of its objects, i.e. Dads Rock must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are
- Has an effective and efficient administration
- Is financially stable.
Contribute actively to the role of Trustee by:
- Attending Board meetings and other meetings and events
- Offer support and challenge to board colleagues and staff, adhering to collective responsibility once decisions are made
- Setting and reviewing operational policy and practice
- Defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- Safeguard the good name and values of DR
- Protect and manage the tangible assets (property etc.) of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of all funds
- Promote and represent DR externally as required.
In addition to the above duties of all Trustees, each Trustee should use any specific knowledge or experience they may have to help the Board reach sound decisions. This will involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, and providing advice and guidance requested by the Board on new initiatives or other issues relevant to the area of work in which the Trustee has special expertise.
Person Specification:
Essential attributes
- An interest in the ethos and aims of Dads Rock.
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
- Commitment to preparing for and attending board meetings and other meetings and events.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality on personal and sensitive information.
- The ability to work as part of the team of Trustees in order to reach sound and fair decisions.
- Ability to understand and analyse complex information, often presented in report form.
- Ability to contribute to Dads Rock strategic planning process.
- To be able to represent at least one key skill/knowledge area on the Board.
- To ensure that you are not disqualified from being a trustee for any reason.
