Role
Families Outside is the only national charity in Scotland that works solely to support families affected by imprisonment. Imprisonment can often have a huge impact on the things that matter most to families: money and secure housing, safe and connected relationships at home and in the community, and the emotional health and wellbeing of families. Families Outside is dedicated to providing a range of practical, social, and emotional support to people with someone in prison that are relationship-based, prison-aware, and family-focused.
As part of an exciting new partnership project with our colleagues at Barnardo’s Scotland, the Families Outside Family Support Worker will work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people and their families in Edinburgh. We will address the social and family adversities that children and young people who have a family member in prison face to ensure they are safe, healthy, included, and achieving at home, school, and in the community.
Our Family Support Worker will:
- Support children, young people, and families at home and in their community via 1:1, family, and group work.
- Work closely with key professionals including prison staff and prison visitor centre staff to provide advice, information, and guidance to families and professionals on a range of issues.
- Support a caseload and address individual and family needs, referring to appropriate local services (i.e. housing, health, welfare) as required.
- Support families to be involved in relevant case conferences and decision-making fora where possible.
We are looking for a Family Support Worker who is:
- Experienced in working with and alongside children, young people, and families in creative and flexible ways
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic, but also passionate about developing and delivering quality, engaging, and fun activities that are accessible to children and young people across Edinburgh
- Confident in managing risk and ensuring children and young people are safe at home and in the community
- Focused on the rights of children and young people in their work and all they do
- Trauma-informed and understands the impact of imprisonment upon children, young people, and families
- Confident in working within GIRFEC approaches and is an effective contributor to multi-agency work with other professionals to meet the needs of children, young people, and families.

About Options Fife Continuing Care
At Aberlour we listen to understand what our young people want and need within our local area. Our Options Fife Continuing Care service in Glenrothes supports young people with learning disabilities and/or autism to live and thrive within the local community.
This service will be home to 4 young people aged 16 plus who will all have their own individual flat. Our rota has been drafted to suit the needs of the young people.
What we are looking for....
We are looking for a full time (37.5 hours, working 3 x 12.5 hour shifts per week) Young People’s Worker to join our team. You will play a fundamental role in our young people’s lives to ensure that they get the best possible experience whilst working towards goals in their care plan. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical and emotional care, supporting our young people in their daily living and within the local community.
If you have an interest in working with young people, we would like to hear from you. Ideally, candidates will have social care experience, understanding of autism, complex needs and disability. You will hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example: SVQ3 Care plus an HNC) together with relevant experience of working with children or young people. You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with people affected by disability as well as an understanding of, and commitment to, young people’s rights.

About Aberlour Children’s Charity
Aberlour is one of the largest Scottish children’s charities, celebrating 150 years helping to improve the lives of Scotland’s disadvantaged children and young people. At Aberlour we know that not all children are born with an equal chance so we work to support children, young people and families overcome poverty, disadvantage and discrimination.

What we are looking for....
We are looking for a qualified assessor to support SVQ assessment across the organisation.
We are approved by the SQA to deliver SVQs in Social Services (Children & Young People). To enable assessment in this award you should have a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above along with your assessor award.
Your experience should include working in a relevant care setting, assessment of at least 4 candidates through to completion of their SVQ’s. You must be able to demonstrate that you have experience of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation of learning activities in a social care setting.
The post is 37.5hrs per week and will require travel across Scotland. Your work base can be flexible, we are able to support a mix of office and home working as required.

First Step is a community-based organisation working directly with families and young children in the early years. We support parents to build confidence, strengthen relationships and create a nurturing environment for their children. About us:
Home-Start offers guidance, friendship and practical support to families across Clackmannanshire who have at least one child under the age of twelve. We work with families to help them overcome issues impacting their lives, through a range of family support services. Our families are each unique, however common issues we support include: isolation and loneliness, mental health difficulties, bereavement, family breakdown, addiction, and physical ill-health. We’ve been supporting local families across Clackmannanshire since 1988. The Home-Start team (staff, volunteers and trustees) are committed to ensuring that children are given the best possible start in life as #childhoodcantwait.
The role of our trustees:
Charity trustees are responsible – and accountable - for the governance and strategy of their charity. They are responsible for making sure that their charity is administered effectively and can account for its activities and outcomes.
As a trustee on our board, you will contribute to:
1. Providing leadership and direction within the ethos of Home-Start.
2. Ensuring the scheme has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction.
3. Being responsible for the effective performance and management of the scheme.
4. Ensuring the scheme complies with legal and regulatory requirements, the objects of the scheme, the governing documents including the Home-Start Standards and Methods of Practice, the Home-Start Agreement and quality standards.
5. Securing and guarding the scheme’s assets and taking care of their security, deployment, and proper application.
6. Ensuring that the scheme’s governance is of the highest possible standard.
7. Undertaking an ambassadorial role for the scheme.
8. Appointing sub-committees and agreeing their terms of reference and membership.
Time Commitment:
Our board meets every 7-8 weeks, a hybrid approach where trustees can attend in-person meetings at our offices in Alloa or via Teams. Our offices are fully accessible.
As a trustee, you would also attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM) once a year.
Support:
Volunteers are the heart of Home-Start, and so in return for your time and commitment, you will be fully supported in role by our Chair. A full induction will be provided, and opportunities for both training and networking are also available.
All reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
