Role
We empower young people to take action on the climate crisis. Since 2014, we have been doing this through engaging, educating, and empowering Scotland’s young people - who we call Young Leaders.
We equip young people aged approximately 18 to approximately 35 with the skills and knowledge they need to collectively lead Scotland in the transition to a just and sustainable society.
2050 Climate Group established as a charity in February 2017. Our registered charitable purpose is the advancement of education on climate change issues and leadership skills with the aspiration of engaging, educating and empowering the next generation of leaders to take action on climate change, thereby advancing environmental protection and improvement. So far in our organisation’s short history we have achieved significant successes, such as:
- Training around 600 young people through our Young Leaders Development Programme (YLDP)
- Winning the Scottish Green Energy Awards for Skills Contribution 2017, and the Global Game Changers Award 2018
- Speaking about our work at four consecutive United Nations’ climate change COPs, including COP26 in Glasgow.
- Giving evidence in the Scottish Parliament on the 2018 Climate Change Bill
- Commencing our collaboration with Malawian Young Leaders through the Scotland Malawi Partnership
The 2050 Climate Group Board is responsible for governing the organisation. They are responsible for growing the overall impact of the charity, and for overseeing our 3-year strategic plan.
It is a core value that our organisation is for young people and run by young people. We lead by example with regards to promoting young people and pursuing equality and inclusion through our Board.
The role of a Trustee offers you the opportunity to develop personally and professionally and contribute to a significant and growing climate movement in Scotland. We offer opportunities for skills development, training and leadership. As a Trustee, you will also have the opportunity to publicly represent the organisation and meet high profile stakeholders. In addition, we are very proud of our well-being focused organisational culture that we foster, so joining our Board also means joining a supportive, friendly, and ambitious network of young people. The role is unpaid, but we reimburse travel expenses for attending meetings, when in person.
Ultimately, we care less about the number of years of experience you have and especially value the perspectives and skills you can bring to our organisation. We have only two requirements: you are aged around 18- approximately 35 when you apply, and you have a strong connection to Scotland.
We are looking to recruit a number of Trustee positions that fall under the following categories:
- Trustees who bring in specific skills:We are looking to recruit a number of trustees, but are particularly interested in hearing from applicants with skills in financial management, governance/leadership, business development,andmanaging human resources. If you have skills in one or more of these areas, please specify this in your application.
- Trustees who bring in varied perspectives. We recognise that young people are a diverse group and want our Board of Trustees to be representative of Scotland’s diverse communities. We are particularly interested in applicants that would bring in varied perspectives. This might be due to your life experience, ethnic or social background, physical or neurological differences, or anything else you feel relevant.

The team
The Compliance team are one of the key support services which serve as an anchor in our organisation. We lead on advice in data protection, financial conduct and maintain the organisation’s Integrated Management System (IMS); made up of the quality, environmental, energy, and information security standards.

The role
The Data Protection Officer role presents an exciting opportunity to advance your career in data protection, information security and privacy. You will provide day to day support and advice across the organisation for all matters relating to data protection, support the Compliance and Accreditation Manager and chair our Information Governance group. You will lead our Data Protection Team with one direct report and be an integral part of the IT and Compliance team.
You will play a vital role in ensuring our organisation is continuously improving its approach to data protection and providing staff with sufficient training on, and awareness of, key compliance issues.
What you’ll do
• Lead the development, review and continual improvement of policies and procedures, and monitor organisational compliance
• Lead the data protection team, managing our Data Protection Assistant
• Lead the delivery of in-house training and the development of training packages for the organisation
• Coordinate and support with responses to information requests such as Subject Access
• Use information to analyse and report on trends, identify risks, and assist business areas with risks assessment to guide their activities and target resources
• Log and investigate reports of noncompliance and support business areas to resolve them
• Play an active role in the internal audit function in conducting routine audits, and producing audit reports for senior management.

This is a permanent position. Our standard weekly hours are 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday. As standard we offer all contracts on blended (home and office-based) working.
Purpose of role:
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Café Supervisor to manage and contribute to the smooth running of the Nest Café, including all cooking and catering requirements for the organisation. The Café Supervisor will lead the management of a small team of Café Assistants and volunteers, and will implement appropriate management disciplines while working to ensure excellent customer service standards, hygiene, food safety and stock control are always upheld. The Supervisor will form part of the wider Management Team at the Centre and will be required to work with the General Manager to contribute to delivering a successful commercial strategy for the Nest Café in line with The Ecology Centre’s values and wider strategic direction.
The successful candidate is expected to familiarise themselves with the ecological principles that are at the core of what we do and to lead day-to-day operations that are consistent with those principles. This will involve consideration of the environmental impact of what we offer, ensuring that menus reflect and fully utilise what is seasonally available from our market garden, and that day-to-day operations play a part in reducing food waste, landfill and the consequent environmental damage.
Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity working locally to bring people together, take positive action on the climate emergency and support people experiencing fuel poverty and food insecurity.
We want our town to be a good place to live and work. We believe in a future where everyone has a say in what happens locally, people are working together to protect our environment and those in hardship are supported to live well.
Our team of 40 staff and 100 volunteers deliver a wide range of grant-funded projects and social enterprise (income-generating) activities. We work in Kirkcaldy and across the region of Fife, often in partnership with other charities, public-sector organisations and social enterprises. Our work is diverse and includes programmes of action on climate change, fuel poverty and food insecurity, encouraging individuals, households, community groups and businesses to make Fife a greener and fairer place to live.
We are looking for an experienced Programme Manager (Maternity Cover) to play a key role in leading and supporting our operational teams.
You will lead and support four Project Managers and a Volunteer Coordinator to deliver operational objectives. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will also play a key organisation-wide role, ensuring effective practice around impact evaluation and quality management.
As part of our succession planning the Social Enterprise Academy are looking to recruit up to 4 new volunteer Board members who are interested in supporting our vision and being part of making amazing change happen and are able to commit to a minimum of 45 hours per year.
We are particularly interested in applications from those with expertise or experience in any of the following areas:
- Learning & Development
- HR and People Development, creating positive working cultures, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
- Working in or managing an organisation that operates internationally
- Growing or scaling a business
- Fundraising
- Social Enterprise, either as a social entrepreneur or working within a social enterprise
- Expertise in the use of technology in service delivery and an understanding of digital developments
- Policy and/or public affairs relating to social enterprise and the third sector in Scotland

As well as having the wider professional skills and experiences that we need on the board we also want a board that reflects and understands the people that we serve.
We will choose candidates who, overall, offer the best contribution and fit with our values. Relevant skills and experience are important but previous board experience is not essential, nor is a long career at a senior level. Applications from first-time board members are welcomed. All board members will be given a full induction and will be supported to maximise the value of their contribution.
Through this recruitment process, we will also be considering whether some applicants who are not chosen for a board role might be open to a committee or advisory role with the Academy.

Your work will help ensure that we continue to deliver a high-quality service and encourage innovation in learning and enterprise. You will be legally responsible for the organisation and will be supported in fully understanding how to carry out your role. You will provide ideas, insight, feedback, and positive challenge in order to help increase our reach and impact.

- Overall sustainability of the organisation and ensuring finances are well-managed and reported
- Ensuring the organisation acts in accordance with its charitable aims
- Ensuring the organisation fulfils its legal obligations in relation to its charitable and company status
As well as fulfilling these responsibilities the Academy board is a creative and strategic group, engaging with the sector and the wider staff team to support the success of the organisation and its people. It is a supportive and collaborative board with individuals committed to the values of social enterprise and learning and who all bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise and perspectives.
All new board members will undertake an induction process to get to know the Academy, the team and your fellow board members.
