Role

Glasgow Association for Mental Health is one of the principle providers of community mental health services in Greater Glasgow. We are commissioned by Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership to deliver a Compassionate Distress Response Service for people in distress who do not require a medical or clinical intervention. The service comprises of:

  • A daytime service open to GP/Primary Care referrals only. 5 days a week 9am to 5pm.
  • An Out of hours service 7 days a week 4.45pm to 2am. Referrals restricted to; Mental Health Assessment Units, CPN/OOHs, Police Scotland, British Transport Police, Scottish Ambulance Service, GP Out of Hours, NHS 24, NHS GG&C Emergency Departments within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Urgent Care Resource Hub.
  • Young People CDRS taking referrals from above as well as enhanced pathway for CAMHS, YHS, SW, Secondary Education, Higher/Further Education.

The services are operated from our GAMH Head Office at St Andrews by the Green. We wish to appoint the following:

1 x Distress Response Worker:OUT of HOURS service – (REF: DRW/OH/FT). Monday to Sunday 4.45pm – 2am.37.5 hours per/week: Mon to Sun 4.45pm – 2am (4 days on 4 days off 9.38 hours per night).

1 x 0.5 Distress Response Workers:OUT OF HOURS service – (REF: DRW/OH/PT). Pro Rata £11,220. Rota will consists of 2 nights (2 nights’ on and 2 nights off -9.38 hours per night).

Key Skills:

  • Good communication skills to be able to work effectively with emergency services and first responders.
  • Compassionate listening, be able to alleviate individual’s feelings of distress.
  • Be highly resourceful in supporting individuals i.e. identifying coping strategies, self-management techniques and onward referral where appropriate.
  • Be confident and competent to apply risk assessment, safety planning, and escalation processes where appropriate.
  • SVQ 3 or equivalent or willingness towards achieving this qualification is essential.
