Role

These two posts will develop and deliver Scottish Families ‘Routes’ Young Persons Project, working alongside young people in East and West Dunbartonshire, to provide a programme of support for 12-26 year olds affected by family alcohol and drug use. The two posts operate as part of the Routes team led by a Senior Family Support Development Officer and supported by two Support Assistants.

The posts are located across East and West Dunbartonshire. The posts have an area-wide remit and will involve significant travel throughout the area and some to our offices in Glasgow, as well as occasional travel elsewhere in Scotland. Some home working is involved. It is expected that the post holders will be required to work some evenings and occasional weekends. These posts will be part of Scottish Families’ staff team and be managed by the Senior Family Support Development Officer – Young People. There will be a close working relationship with young people and with local partner agencies in East and West Dunbartonshire.

The post-holders will be responsible for developing and delivering Scottish Families ‘Routes’ Young Persons Project. This involves working alongside young people in East and West Dunbartonshire to provide a programme of support for 12-26 year olds affected by family alcohol and drug use.

We are seeking applicants who have a relevant degree or professional qualification, along with experience of working with a range of children and young people; planning and delivering a structured programme of support for children and young people that promotes their personal development, self-esteem and resilience; planning, organising and facilitating young people’s participation groups; supporting young people to engage in planning, developing and evaluating projects; identifying and managing risk and assessing needs of children and young people. Applicants should have knowledge of issues for young people affected by family substance use, an understanding of child protection issues and safeguarding practice, and understanding of the emotional and developmental issues for children and young people. We are seeking applicants who can build rapport, positively engage and support young people, as well as having the ability to listen and talk to young people from differing abilities, understanding and backgrounds.
