Role

CHAI (Community Help and Advice Initiative) is looking for Board Members who are passionate and committed to making a meaningful difference for people and communities.

CHAI provides free independent, confidential, high quality impartial advice, information and representation on welfare rights, employability, debt, and housing matters to disadvantaged people who live in Edinburgh and Midlothian. Our aim is to alleviate poverty, prevent homelessness and encourage employability.

As one of the largest Advice organisations in Scotland our vision is to ensure that no one in our communities unduly endures hardship and that everyone has the opportunity to become the best version of themselves.

Over the past 25 years CHAI has become embedded in the communities we serve, establishing long-standing connections, collaborations, and partnerships with statutory bodies, and third sector organisations, community groups, housing associations and other advice and support agencies in Edinburgh. This has allowed us to become a key point of reference for vulnerable people facing hardship.

This is an exciting time to join our charity. With an ambitious new strategy and brand, we have aspiration to grow our existing services and develop new services that contribute to our work. Do you have the passion and expertise to help us achieve our goals, if so, we would love to hear from you?

We are looking for four new trustees to join our established and committed Board. As a Board member you will play an integral role in helping to shape our work by providing guidance and support. You will help us to make a positive difference to people's lives as well as grow personally and professionally too.

We would especially love to hear from you if you have experience in the following areas: -

  • Previous experience of working with or being supported by CHAI (Lived Experience)
  • Financial experience
  • Fundraising experience
  • A genuine interest in supporting the work we do and in helping the people we support

Please note that we provide an induction, training, and appraisal to all our Board members.

CHAI is committed to empowering and supporting people from all backgrounds and we welcome applications from people regardless of age, ability, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, education, and cultural origin.

Application notes

If you are interested in any of the positions above and would like to request our Board Member Recruitment Pack or have an informal initial chat to discuss what is involved, please email chai@chaiedinburgh.org.uk and we will contact you.

Closing date for applications is Friday 29 April 2022
