Role

Carers Trust Scotland is part of Carers Trust, a major charity for, with and about carers. We work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems.

With locally based Network Partners we are able to support carers in the community with information, advice, emotional support, hands-on practical help and access to much-needed breaks. We offer specialist services for carers of people of all ages and conditions and a range of individually tailored support and group activities.

We are currently looking for a Research and Influencing Officer (Scotland). The scope and main duties for this role include:

  • Design, deliver and analyse in-depth research using a mixture of quantitative and qualitative research methods focussing on the experience unique to older adult unpaid carers.
  • Responsibility for collating and analysing relevant data that impacts unpaid carers in Scotland, such as Census and Scottish Health Survey etc and providing data reports.
  • To identify evolving issues and needs of unpaid carers in Scotland through research and policy analysis.
  • Produce comprehensive, original, and accessible research reports with key and clear recommendations, with a focus on social policy progression for unpaid carers and carer services in Scotland.
  • Engage unpaid carers, carer services and policymakers in research and activities to give voice to the lived experience of unpaid carers and carer services in Scotland.
  • Deliver Learning and Sharing research events that target key stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Work with colleagues to plan and manage all media opportunities for promoting research and events.
  • Have an active role in assisting with communications in Scotland such as social media, website content and press engagement.
  • Acting on key recommendations, delivering relevant community engagement campaigns with unpaid carers to facilitate a national conversation to assist with Carers Trust Scotland's policy and influencing work.
  • Build contacts with a range of decision-makers, such as Scottish Government Ministers, MSPs, NHS Health Board Chief Executives, Directors of Education, Social Work etc to build partnerships and to facilitate strategic influencing following research recommendations being produced.
  • Represent Carers Trust Scotland as agreed on role relevant strategic forums including government, voluntary sector and other steering groups and committees, using these to influence policy and practice change impacting unpaid carers and carer services.

The successful candidate will have experience of:

  • undertaking high-quality social research using a range of methods and producing research reports
  • successful project planning and coordination
  • partnership working
  • working with professionals
  • representing and speaking on behalf of an organisation
  • planning events.
