Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) is Scotland’s national resource of expertise on drugs and related issues. We seek to lead and represent the drugs field in Scotland in order to improve Scotland’s response to problem drug use. SDF works with policy makers, service planners and commissioners, service managers and staff as well as people who use or have used services to ensure service quality and evidence-based policy and practice.

About the Project:
SDF has pioneered and developed a peer research model as a key part of its inclusion and peer engagement activity. Peer research allows the voices and experiences of people who have experienced or are experiencing problem substance use to be heard where decisions are being made.
SDF is funded to provide independent quality improvement and evaluation work in areas and services across Scotland. This includes ongoing work around the implementation of the Medicated Assisted Treatment Standards (MAT), previous projects have included experiences of stigma and the relationship between homelessness and substance use.
SDF also works in partnership with academic institutions in the design and delivery of research in Scotland, supporting peer researchers to engage in this process and advocating for research that is designed by a process of co-production where possible.
About the Post-holder and the Role:
The primary focus of the Development Officer is to project manage assigned peer research and evaluation projects. The main tasks being to recruit, train, support and supervise a team of peer research volunteers across Scotland in conjunction with other team members as required. Peer researchers are an essential element of the work we do and will be trained and supported to undertake national evaluations and contribute to the inclusion activities across Scotland.
The Development Officer will also lead on research and evaluation material development such as creating surveys or interview topic guides, analysis of research and evaluation findings and production of written reports for key stakeholders.

During the pandemic we are mainly working from home, but it is envisaged this post will have in person work and will require travel throughout Scotland and an ability to attend work in our head office based in Glasgow as required.
