Role

Want to work in one of the most influential places in Scotland? Now is your chance!

We’re looking to expand our team and recruit a number of Senior Clerks within The Scottish Parliament. The roles will be permanent and dependent on the level of applications, we’ll also be creating an Assistant Clerks pool which is an excellent opportunity to register with us to be considered for both temporary and permanent opportunities in that role.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates from an ethnic minority background who are under-represented at this level. All appointments will be made on merit. We have a values-based culture of respect and inclusion embedded in our organisation, and everyone has the ability to make a difference.

We’re looking for enthusiastic multi-taskers to work within our Committee and Chamber Office as Senior Clerks. As an exceptional leader, you’ll empower those reporting to you, acting impartially and exercising sound judgement in everything you do. You’ll play a key role in supporting the MSPs in inquiring into and debating issues of importance to the people of Scotland, in holding the Scottish Government to account and in deciding on new laws.

You’ll have an acute awareness of Scotland’s political machinery and an interest in topical issues and current affairs. With exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, you’ll use your skills to communicate complex information in an understandable way, investigating current political issues, gathering evidence, assisting members of the public to have their voices heard in the Parliament and providing advice on procedure and protocol to MSPs.

We offer a great range of benefits including 41.5 days of leave (including public holidays), the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, flexible working and family-friendly policies.
