Role

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry (SCAI) is an independent public inquiry established under the Inquiries Act 2005.

To support the successful achievement of the Inquiry’s terms of reference we are recruiting two Senior Researchers. These posts offer an excellent opportunity for someone with extensive research and copy-editing experience to work in a dynamic and multi-disciplinary environment where they will make a significant contribution to the investigation of the abuse of children in care.

Main Duties

You will:

  • Undertake specialist research—including the processing, and analysis of highly sensitive and confidential data—to inform and guide the work of the Inquiry, ensuring high quality data is used across the Inquiry
  • Be responsible for copy-editing reports, ensuring consistency and accuracy within and across outputs
  • Manage the production of specialist reports, ensuring targets are achieved within timescales
  • Be responsible for the creation and management of research databases
  • Produce rapid reviews of research to inform the work of the Inquiry
  • Communicate findings to a variety of stakeholders in sensitive, and creative ways
  • Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on all aspects of research
  • Where required, support other tasks within the team

Essential criteria

  • Experience of copy-editing complex documents
  • Experience of data gathering, management, and analysis for research purposes
  • Excellent command of English grammar and usage
  • Excellent IT literacy
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience of working under pressure and to tight timescales
  • Experience of working independently, as well as part of a team
  • Personal resilience and the ability to deal with what can be a distressing subject matter
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of using NVivo
