Role

The Workshop is a purpose-built & well-equipped workshop space and aims to a) be a social enterprise, not for profit to support Lochaber Hope’s future sustainability in our community b) to improve personal growth and achievement and to reduce suicide in our community by engaging more participants in activity, workshops, practical and social skills building and c) to produce quality bespoke and stock furniture items.

A suitable candidate will be innovative, imaginative, creative and passionate about their part in taking the Lochaber Hope vision and turning it into reality. They will be enthusiastic, an excellent listener, resourceful and have a genuine interest in working with people and the community. They will establish relationships and work with people in groups and 1:1.

Working within a small team, the successful candidate will be expected to have a flexible, proactive and ‘can-do’ attitude, and to be able to use their own initiative. Adoption of a non-judgemental approach will be essential. Confidentiality, and setting and maintaining boundaries are also essential to this post, as is championing and maintaining the positive image of Lochaber Hope.

They will also be expected to undertake any other duties appropriate to the post which are required for the efficient functioning of Lochaber Hope.

The Ideal Candidate will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating volunteers, workshops and skills based learning activity
  • Completing client orders within reasonable timescales
  • Maintaining workshop tools and equipment as required
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
  • Looking after the Health and Safety of others within The Workshop

Essential:

  • Joinery/bench joinery/furniture making qualification (NVQ level 2 or above) or extensive relevant experience (minimum five years)
  • Experience in leading a project
  • Good communication & sensitivity to the needs of others
  • be able to work well in a nurturing environment with a team of staff and volunteers
  • be a non-judgemental and genuine people person
  • have a full driving licence
  • be eligible to work in the UK

Enhanced PVG disclosure will be required.
