Role

Understanding the evidence base is central to the work of CELCIS and how we can help to inform the people and services working to respond to the needs of children, young people, their families and carers.

We are looking for an experienced data analyst to help develop more knowledge and understanding in Scotland of the needs, experiences and outcomes of children living in formal kinship care. This role offers the opportunity work on a new, innovative data linkage project, leading the analysis of a linked dataset comprising data from health, education, child protection, SCRA, and national ‘looked after children’, datasets.

As a leading improvement and innovation centre in Scotland, CELCIS works to improve the lives of children and young people in need of care and protection, and their families and carers, by supporting people and organisations responsible for their care to make changes in services and in the practices and skills they use.

Working at our Centre for Excellence, you will be at the forefront of administrative data research within Scotland, contributing to national learning about the benefits, limitations and challenges of conducting such research. The work from this project is designed to directly inform Scottish Government priorities, as well as provide an exemplar of the possible routine use of administrative data to inform government policy.

The role will include preparing research work for publication and disseminating the results though peer reviewed journal publications and presentation at conferences. You will be a part of the wider SCADR, Administrative Data Research – Scotland, of which CELCIS is a member, and Administrative Data Research – UK. Using these networks you will be able to share information and ideas to inform the development of research objectives, and throughout the project you will be involved in knowledge exchange events to ensure that the learning gained is made accessible and relevant to a wide range of audiences.

This role will be suitable for candidates who are educated to a minimum of PhD level in an appropriate discipline, or who have significant relevant experience in addition to a relevant degree. Candidates will need sufficient depth of knowledge in the practice of the manipulation complex datasets and the analysis of complex datasets, in order to be able to disseminate accessible results and to engage in knowledge exchange activities.

Does this sound like the data analyst role for you? Do you enjoy working in a team environment? Do you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade? Are you confident in presenting complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences? If so, this could be the role for you!

Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with: relevant work experience, membership of relevant Chartered/professional bodies (including the Higher Education Academy), experience of relevant student supervision and teaching activities, and/or experience of knowledge exchange related activities.

All CELCIS staff are working remotely at home until the University has ensured it is safe and essential to work in the office (we are based in the Curran Building at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow).
