Role

Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity.

SAMH has represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for more than 90 years.

Today, in over 60 communities we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

SAMH is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances.

We have two vacancies available for experienced support workers in our George Street Care at Home and Housing Support service.

This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to make a difference to peoples’ lives, with the successful candidate playing an important role in providing support services that encourages their clients independent living and creates an environment for recovery in which relationships uphold their rights to privacy, dignity and personal choice.

As a key worker you will be able to establish positive relationships and offer practical and emotional support to the people who use our services and have severe and enduring mental health problems, homelessness and substance misuse problems. You will support clients in their homes and encourage them to participate in activities for independent living and to be involved in all decisions that affect them.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a mature and caring attitude and possess excellent listening and communication skills. They should already have experience of working in the field of mental health or social care, and must be able to demonstrate a high degree of skill in assessing client need, developing professional support plans and report writing. An SVQ Level II in care or equivalent is highly desirable but whatever your background, a flexible caring approach combined with good practical skills will be essential.

As position will involve a variety of shift patterns including late evenings, weekends and occasional waking night shifts, you should be flexible in the hours you are available to work.

In addition to joining a great team, as a SAMH employee you will benefit from 30 days annual leave allowance plus 2 wellbeing days per year (pro rata for part time staff).
