Community Volunteers Enabling You (COVEY) has operated across Lanarkshire for 32 years supporting 5,000 children, young people and parents/carers to become more resilient, safe and better equipped to reach their full potential. COVEY provides 1-1 and group-based befriending, mentoring and family support.

COVEY is seeking a passionate, professional and proactive individual to provide support to families who are experiencing difficulties or challenges in their everyday lives such as isolation, mental and physical health problems, disability, poverty and trauma. This involves direct work with children, young people, parents/carers and whole families via 1-1 intervention/support and group-based mentoring.

The successful candidate will provide person centred, relationship-based support to children, young people and parents/carers to help them identify and address short-term needs (strengthening confidence, wellbeing and family/community relationships) and support long-term aspirations into positive destinations. We are looking for a dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team. Y sort it Young Carers Service supports young carers aged between 8-18 years across West Dunbartonshire.

This exciting post offers a unique opportunity to work with Young Carers within school, home & community based settings. The role of the Young Carer Support Worker will be to support young carers in making informed choices around issues that are important to them, through one to one, group work sessions & respite.

You will be offering and completing Young Carers Statements (Assessments), developing support plans, providing advice and information, training and group work to support young carers with their caring role.

Young carers are supported through a range of measures to alleviate the caring role and your role will be to work closely with schools, partner agencies and family members to ensure they are able to be a young person first and foremost.

You will be active at providing support and encouragement, helping them to overcome challenges and /or barriers working towards goals to improve their learning, skills and personal development. Offering guidance, rights based information, creating learning opportunities. You will be developing support plans, providing advice and information, training and peer support. Your role will be to work closely with schools, partner agencies and family members.

The post holder should be flexible as the actual times of work will involve working, evenings, school holidays and weekends. Amplify is a 3-year, Scotland-wide, large-scale Youth Participation programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund (UK Fund). It builds on Youth Scotland’s experience of supporting youth voice and aims to increase young people’s involvement in decisions that affect their lives, communities and services. The project will support young people, youth workers and wider community stakeholders to embed youth voice into decision-making and community life.

Introduction to MYDG

Muirhouse Youth Development Group was established in 1997 and has been working with young people from Muirhouse and the surrounding areas ever since. Over the past 30 years, we have built strong, trusted relationships with young people, their families, the local community, and with the high school in which we are based. We deliver a full week of activities for young people, including evening youth clubs and in-school support. MYDG works with young people aged 8–18, and we support their development through opportunities such as our Young Volunteers Programme.

Purpose of the Job

Our Youth Development Workers play a direct role in engaging and supporting young people: delivering issue-based sessions, creating safe and inclusive spaces, and ensuring that young people’s voices are heard and prioritised in decision-making—both within the organisation and in the wider community.

We are looking for someone with a good understanding of the experiences and challenges young people face in the local area, and with experience in delivering impactful group work programmes.

Role Requirements

This role requires the postholder to deliver high-quality, safe, fun, and empowering youth work activities and support services. You will be part of a small, collaborative team working to achieve key outcomes for young people, as required by our funders. The postholder should have the confidence and ability to develop, deliver, and promote a relevant and engaging youth work programme for young people of varying ages.
