An opportunity has arisen within Cyrenians Communities for a skilled people person with strong organisational skills to oversee our volunteer recruitment and development processes.
About the Communities
Our communities are at the heart of what we do; directly supporting individuals with experience of homelessness.
Our unique approach integrates residential/day volunteers alongside our residents, offering a peer-support model. Volunteers live as community members acting as mentors and are fundamental to the unique service we provide.
About the role
This role is designed to keep our volunteer model running smoothly and attract new volunteers. With support from the Administrator, you will oversee the recruitment process, liaise with a range of stakeholders including: potential volunteers, sending organisations, visa sponsorship organisations, funders, and more.
You will also ensure that the volunteers have an effective induction, and receive support and training during their placements with us. These volunteers provide vital dedicated support to our service and this role is an exciting opportunity to strengthen our model.
About you
You will possess the skills to market the Communities to potential new volunteers, as well as bring fresh and interesting ideas for developing the volunteer model further. You will have experience in recruitment, and a knowledge of volunteer development. You will also have strong communication skills, be able to deal with competing demands and the ability to demonstrate Cyrenians values in the work that you do.

You’ll work with an experienced part-time Administrator, the wider communities’ staff team and have a supportive manager. You’ll also have access to wider Cyrenians support, including our learning and development programme, and staff wellbeing services.

About the programme
The Edinburgh Resilience Programme, inspired by the Edinburgh Wellbeing Pact, works with people aged 60+. We work holistically to support clients to; discharge from hospital, access suitable housing, food, energy security and welfare. We encourage social connections to enable them to live well within their local community and have more good days. We are funded by the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership.
About the role
Partnership working will be central to this role. You will work autonomously in the community, providing one-to-one holistic support to people aged 60+ living in Edinburgh. You will also actively participate in research activities with our partners and the people we support to shape the vision for this project.
About you
We are looking for someone who is good at building trusted relationships with people. You should be positive, able to work on your own initiative, and be innovative and flexible in providing support.
Knowledge of challenges faced by older people and experience of working with them will be important. Experience of carrying out assessments and/or being involved in research would also be an advantage.

Cyrenians’ Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR) is a National Resource Centre for best practice in conflict resolution, mediation and early intervention work with a particular focus on young people and families. Our award-winning digital resources, free training and events improve understanding of conflict and emotional needs, to transform relationships and lives.

This role will ensure that the SCCR continues to evolve and extend its reach. You will:
- Develop and deliver workshops and events, both online and in person
- Contribute to our range of digital resources
- Maintain and develop working relationships with family support services, schools and other groups / organisations

This is an exciting time to join one of our sub-committees of the main board of trustees. The Ramblers has developed a refreshed strategic plan that builds on the Ramblers' success and its mission to open the way for everyone to enjoy the simple pleasures of walking. As we look forward, we want to address the stark inequalities that still exist and support those who face the greatest barriers to getting out and going walking.
As an independent committee member of our main board, you will draw on your skills and experience to help deliver the strategy for achieving our mission, ensure that the charity’s resources are managed responsibly, and that we remain compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
There are four sub-committees with responsibility for assisting the board to discharge its duties in specific areas:
- Strategy and Delivery Committee
- Finance, Risk and Audit Committee
- People and Culture Committee
- Nominations and Governance Committee
Independent Committee Members are volunteers who are recruited to join trustees and senior staff on a specific committee and support the work of that committee, advising on matters relating to that committee’s areas of responsibility, contributing specialist knowledge as appropriate.

The role
We are seeking independent committee members who will join the People and Culture Committee and the Strategy and Delivery Committee.
To join the Committee we are seeking three individuals with proven experience and knowledge of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Volunteering or People/HR, and Digital Transformation.
The People and Culture Committee supports the board with:
- The people and culture activities including the equity, diversity and inclusion programme.
- Safeguarding, and health and safety matters.
- The overall employer offer, including setting and reviewing the remuneration of the Chief Executive.
- The Strategy and Delivery Committee supports the board with:
- Oversight of delivery of the agreed portfolio of strategic and operational programmes of work required to deliver the Ramblers’ strategy and charitable purpose.
Appointment
Appointments to sub-committees are reviewed by the nominations and governance committee, and then recommended for approval to the Board of Trustees. All committee appointments are subject to relevant eligibility checks.
Time Commitment
We know that people have other time commitments and so we want to make sure the committees work as well as possible for everyone.
Sub-committees are held up to four times per year, usually several weeks ahead of each board meeting. The meetings are held virtually and normally run from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. For each meeting you will need some time to read relevant papers.
Independent sub-committee members will be asked to sit on the committee for a period of three years, time commitments permitting.
The Person
To be considered as an independent committee member you should demonstrate:
- proven experience and knowledge in the specialism required
- a commitment to the mission, ambitions and values of the Ramblers
- integrity in your communication and decision making
- an ability to bring a strategic vision and provide sound and independent judgement
- an ability to think creatively
- a willingness to meet the minimum time commitment
- an ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to take decisions in the best interests of the Ramblers
Community Wellbeing Coordinator

Background
EOTDT is a resident-led development trust which works to foster and nurture the development of a sustainable and cohesive community for the residents of Edinburgh Old Town. The Trust’s staff and team of local volunteers work to encourage and support community development, providing a range of education, training and wellbeing activities aimed at improving life for residents. EOTDT recently opened a community hub (The Crannie) to further the promotion of these activities. In response to Covid and lockdown in the community we are working to support better mental health and tackle isolation in the community.
Description of duties:
- Coordinate and maintain the current wellbeing programme of groups and activities, including Gentle Yoga, Women’s Wellbeing Group, Community Dance Group and Community Garden Collective
- Develop the wellbeing programme at The Crannie Community Hub alongside the Community Development Manager
- Develop wellbeing focussed activities in response to resident need and interest, including launch of the new mindfulness group.
- Support the ‘Create and Connect’ Programme alongside the Community Development Manager and develop a wider range of wellbeing specific activities at The Crannie community hub, developing peer support and activities
- Support the planning and delivery of ad hoc community events throughout the year.
- Develop and implement systems of support and signposting for mental health resources for community members
- Occasional evening/weekend work to supervise groups and activities.
- Occasionally assist the Community Development Manager with small funding applications and grants to support the activities and groups within the programme
- Create ongoing and regular methods of evaluation for the wellbeing programme and individual groups
- Develop and support volunteer and community leadership roles that support further wellbeing work in the community
- Work as part of The Crannie team to welcome and support community members within the centre.
- Work alongside The Crannie and general EOTDT team members to develop relationships with partner organisations and local residents, exploring and developing ideas to support mental health and wellbeing in the community.
- Attending networking events and meetings when appropriate.
- Create relevant marketing materials to promote and support wellbeing projects, and use social media to distribute these.
- Any adhoc jobs as assigned by the Community Development Manager or other senior staff.
