  • Full time
  • £30,220
  • Edinburgh
  • Closing 17th January 2023

  • Advertised from 23rd December 2022

Role

The EIS is Scotland’s largest and most influential trade union and professional association for teachers and lecturers, with over 60,000 members working in all education sectors and at all career levels. With such a large and diverse membership, and as an organisation that is strongly active across many areas of Scottish Education, we rely on high quality administrative support.

An opportunity has arisen to join our Communications Department on a fixed term contract in order to enhance the capacity of our existing team during a year in which there are expected to be a large number of campaigns, consultations and other developments within the education sector in Scotland, in which the EIS will be closely involved.

The successful candidate will support the department both in relation to external communications (including media relations and the ongoing management of social media accounts) and electronic communication with EIS members and branch Reps. They will also be involved in aspects of the production of the Institute’s members’ journal (the SEJ) including ensuring copy is available for production deadlines, proof-reading and the administration of advertising.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate a high standard of communication skills, commitment to team working, close attention to detail, and expertise in using Microsoft Office.

Benefits include auto enrolment to the Nest Pension Scheme and 23 days’ annual leave plus 14 days’ public holidays. This is a full-time fixed term position based in our headquarters in Moray Place, Edinburgh.

The Institute has a Flexible Working Patterns policy offering all members of staff a high degree of flexibility over the time and location at which work is carried out, subject to the overall requirements of the EIS and its members. The role will require a small element of out-of-hours working, for example, to attend and provide online updates from members’ events.

As a trade union employer, the EIS is committed to the principles of social justice and equality. We therefore welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of any protected characteristics.
