MULTI-CULTURAL FAMILY BASE is an innovative organisation which seeks to improve the lives of children and families with the principles of equality, social justice and anti-discrimination at its core. Approximately 60% of our multidisciplinary workforce is from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background.

The organisation’s key objective is to support BAME individuals, children and parents deal with important transition points - this can be the birth of a child, the move into primary school or the move to Edinburgh for families who are refugee and asylum seekers or new migrants. In addition, we combine our service delivery with practice learning by providing high quality and diverse placement opportunities for social work students from academic institutions across Scotland.

An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a, experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our team.

MCFB is seeking a qualified, skilled and motivated individual to provide individual and group work interventions for vulnerable and disadvantaged families from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds, with infants and children under the age of 4, who are experiencing difficulties, in order to promote the family’s well-being and positive relationships.

You will have a relevant professional qualification (or equivalent practice experience) and have experience of individual and/or group work with infants and young children within the 0 to 3 age range and their parents/family, as well as knowledge of attachment, infant mental health and child development with particular reference to cross-cultural issues. You will have experience of creative approaches to promoting positive perinatal and infant mental health to work cross-culturally with diverse families, with a strong commitment to anti-oppressive practice are also essential. The post requires membership of the PVG Scheme.

This post is funded by the City of Edinburgh Council. Initially, the contract would be offered until August 2023 but may continue beyond, depending on funding.
