An exciting opportunity for you to influence change in Scotland, leading to a healthier and happier place for everyone who lives and visits here.
As the Community Engagement & Behaviour Change Officer, you will join the inspiring Co-Design team, working with communities to identify both barriers to, and opportunities for, getting more people walking, wheeling, and cycling. You’ll work as part of a project team to deliver a range of collaborative design projects with communities across Scotland to improve the quality of their local spaces.
You will conduct on-street and desk-based research that identifies individual, social, economic, and physical barriers to walking, wheeling, cycling and accessing the local area. In addition, you will plan, promote, and deliver a range of activities such as led walks/rides, with communities and other stakeholders to overcome those barriers, encourage more sustainable travel choices and a greater sense of ownership of local spaces.
You will design, promote, and deliver activities that engage people in the community in making decisions about their local space. In addition, you’ll develop tailored recommendations for project partners to engage communities in decision-making, and promote and support people to walk, wheel and cycle.
We offer true hybrid working, a mix of home working and space available within our new Hubs in Edinburgh or Glasgow (opening July 2022) with flexible working patterns to suit individual circumstances.
About you
You should have the ability to build relationships with ease across a wide range of people from varied backgrounds allowing you to effectively engage with diverse communities, and work with project partners (local authorities and community groups) and other stakeholders to effect change. You should be committed to taking an inclusive and equitable approach to engagement, ensuring all voices are heard.
Using your excellent communications skills, you will be able to both engage with, motivate and influence people to make more sustainable travel choices.
We will look for evidence of your experience in delivering behaviour change and engagement initiatives and/or projects using behaviour change tools and best practice to create long-term change. You should be solutions focused and have had experience engaging people through tailored activities and workshops.
We aim to be a truly inclusive employer and welcome applications from people from all parts of the community, in particular from under-represented groups. Sustrans is committed to reducing inequality, valuing diversity, and enabling inclusion.
