By joining Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) as Head of Finance you can be the difference between people just surviving and really living.

You will be part of Scotland’s leading charity providing support to people with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live life to the full again. Our Hospital to Home services form a nationwide network of local support groups, nurses, volunteers and one-to-one support teams helping families adjust to life with a heart or lung condition or after a stroke.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), ideally with third sector experience and experience of the SORP to join the charity as the Head of Finance.

You will be a key member of the organisation leadership team and responsible for the day-to-day financial operations and management of a small, dedicated finance team and report up to the Director of Finance and ICT. This is a great opportunity to run your own finance team and really contribute towards effective financial management of a charity with great ambitions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and development for the Finance team, including support and development, appraisal, coaching and mentoring and lead and participate in cross organisational working groups. You should be confident in providing a financial perspective and input to discussions about the future developments for the charity and Identifying the key objectives for the Finance team and ensuring it aligns to the organization.
  • Oversee the budget process including updating excel models, attending planning meetings, and effectively communicating an testing the budget to the wider leadership team. You should be confident in providing appropriate challenge across the organization and develop the organisation’s approach to in year forecasting and adherence to budget.
  • Treasury management including cash flow and investments
  • Manage the reporting cycle including monthly management accounts, board and finance committee papers. This includes preparation of narrative reports identifying key trends and variances, highlighting actions required and creating financial reports that are understandable to all users.
  • Statutory reporting including preparation of year end accounts, managing the year end audit process and oversight of VAT return preparation.
  • Filing of statutory returns for the charity.
  • Building positive relationships across the charity and a key contact with stakeholders, Funders, Regulators, bankers, etc.
  • Involvement in the strategic review and development of the organisation’s finance processes and systems and be a key driver in developing cross organisational processes
  • Apply personal project management skills to improve and deliver organisational and financial projects
