We’re now hiring a new Drivers Assistant for our social enterprise, FareShare Glasgow & the West of Scotland (FSGWS)!
We’re pleased to offer this position in partnership with the Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS) through their No One Left Behind Long Term Unemployed Project. Applicants must be Glasgow residents aged over 25, and have been unemployed for 12 months or more.
The Role
With our services more in need than ever in the face of the Cost-Of-Living Crisis, we’re looking to recruit a new Drivers Assistant for FareShare Glasgow & the West of Scotland. Based in the FSGWS depot in South Street, Glasgow, you’ll work alongside our highly motivated staff and volunteer teams.
As Drivers Assistant, your role will be to help our van drivers to collect food from our food partners across Glasgow & the West of Scotland, and deliver it to our frontline charity partners, or Community Food Members (CFMs). You’ll be able to understand and follow the schedule and routes that have been set out for you, and complete any necessary paperwork. While on the road, you’ll assist our drivers by calling our CFMS to confirm ETA.
You’ll be the face of FareShare, as a regular point of contact with our local food partners, as well as the diverse range of member charities receiving our food. In addition, you may also act as a host, supervising volunteers who may join you as assistants.
You’ll be an important part of the team within the depot too, supporting our vibrant and growing team of volunteers. You’ll help receive, sort, pick and distribute surplus food coming through our depot daily, making sure that orders are packed and prepared to a high standard, ready to go out to those in need. Our Drivers Assistant will play an important part in making sure the FSGWS depot is always a safe and welcoming environment.
Applicant Eligibility:
Role Requirements
We’re looking for someone with good communication skills, and ideally some customer service experience. You’ll need to be able to take the initiative to work independently, and work calmly and efficiently in a busy depot environment. You’ll also need to be physically capable, as there will be a lot of heavy lifting involved. Don’t worry if you don’t have experience of everything we’ve mentioned here though – if you have a positive attitude and believe you can bring something to the role, we still want to hear from you!
Most importantly, we’re looking for a team player who shares our values. You’ll need to share the Move On & FSGWS ethos of equality and diversity. Working with Move On means meeting with people from all walks of life. It’s essential that our team members can communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, building excellent working relationships with volunteers, suppliers, CFMs, and the wider FareShare network.
About Us
Move On is a mentoring, employability and support charity. We work with vulnerable people of all ages. Our mission is to help our service users take their next steps to lead an independent, fulfilling life.
We also run two social enterprises – Move On Wood Recycling (MOWR), and FareShare Glasgow & the West of Scotland (FSGWS). MOWR is a sustainable waste wood collection service and retail business. FSGWS is a regional centre for UK-wide surplus food redistribution charity FareShare. Both are actively involved in our work supporting employability, and provide training and volunteering opportunities.
The people we support are vulnerable for many reasons. These include poor mental health, substance misuse, care experience, homelessness, and debt. Many have experienced trauma, neglect and abuse, and gained few qualifications and skills due to lack of opportunity. They often suffer from low levels of confidence and motivation as a result.
We’re committed to providing opportunities. By doing so, we offer people an equal chance to reach their full potential, and find their path.
