Family Mediation West of Scotland provides support to families affected by separation, divorce, and conflict. They provide a range of services from their bases in Glasgow and Kilmarnock to ensure they can provide family mediation, family support, and children’s counselling across the west coast of Scotland. Their values help ensure effective support to families through some of their most difficult times. Family Mediation West is affiliated with Relationship Scotland who support a national network of local services.
We are now looking for a new Director who understands the sector, and its challenges, to transform and lead its service, develop its strategy, ensure best possible practice, and achieve effective financial management and funding. You will have an interactive relationship with the Trustees, the workforce, and the wider network as a strong advocate of the charity. You will support the Board and oversee the day-to-day management of the Service, supporting and bringing the staff together. Due to the nature of the work, it can be emotionally challenging so you should be a strong leader, resilient, emotionally mature with great people skills.
You should have demonstrable experience in building strong partnership with the ability to identify oopportunities for new initiatives and the diversification of the organisation’s services. You must be able to drive income and financial opportunities, including fundraising. You should be comfortable engaging with Relationship Scotland, the Care Inspectorate, Scottish Government, and local Council, as well as the service users. You will be expected to develop and maintain appropriate policies, practice and organisational procedures, so experience in governance and compliance is required.
The Charity’s greatest asset is its people who are from a wide background and who have disparate commitments which lead to the part time employment model so prevalent in the Sector. This demands flexibility which creates challenges. The quality of leadership is therefore paramount and the maintenance of oversight and concern with the day to day running of the Charity, delivery of its services and care for the welfare of its personnel, is vital.

The Service receives generous grant support in addition to raising equivalent of 50% of its operating costs through fees direct to users of the service.
