Role

About the service …

Our Perinatal Befriending Services operate within Forth Valley and Lothians. We support mothers and mothers-to-be who are struggling with anxiety, depression and isolation in pregnancy and after their baby is born up to baby’s first birthday. Our service in Lothian supports parents of babies born from 34 weeks gestation who have received neonatal care.

We do this by matching mums to our trained Volunteer Befrienders who can support mum in the hospital, community or at home. Our volunteers build trust with mum, offering practical and emotional support to help improve mental health and wellbeing.

What we are looking for...

We are looking for someone who can provide direction and support for the staff teams enabling them to achieve excellent results and manage change in an ever-changing work environment. You will be key in liaising with a range of external partners, with the aim of influencing service provision to meet the needs of parents.

You will oversee the two sites; our Lothian service is currently funded until April 2025 and Forth Valley until April 2024 with extensions anticipated for both. We have been running our perinatal services since 2015.

You will have direct practice experience within the field of family and perinatal support; experience of supporting and managing staff and volunteers; along with knowledge and experience of child protection issues.

You will work within a variety of locations in Forth Valley and Lothian aligned to the needs of the service including office bases, hospital and community settings and working from home. You will also be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the service budgets.

Finally, you will have local knowledge of the Lothians and Forth Valley areas and have the ability to engage proactively with partner agencies and maintain positive professional relationships.
