This is an exciting opportunity to play a role in the conservation of Edinburgh and to contribute to pro-actively protecting and championing the city's World Heritage status for current and future generations.
Edinburgh World Heritage is an independent charity whose mission is to build meaningful connections that facilitate and nurture a shared sense of belonging and ownership through the conservation of historic buildings, delivering improvements to the public realm, developing our new climate emergency programme and engaging people directly with the rich heritage of the city.
The Chair of Edinburgh World Heritage is central to the organisation, providing effective leadership, chairing Board meetings and driving our purpose at a strategic level. Exercising a respected and moderating influence, the Chair brings strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills to the organisation.
We are seeking an individual with vitality and enthusiasm to succeed Professor O James Garden CBE, FRCSEd, FRSE and Professor Emeritus, Clinical Surgery, University of Edinburgh, in working with its energetic and professional Board of Trustees and the Director to take the organisation forward.
We wish to attract people from a broad range of backgrounds, demographics and cultures to steer and inform our work. We are aiming for inclusivity, richness of experience and diversity on our Board and in our workforce, to ensure that Edinburgh World Heritage reflects the diversity of the world we live and work in. Details of the current Trustees, staff and initiatives are also available from the website.
Full details, including a person specification and application form, can be downloaded from Edinburgh World Heritage’s website ewh.org.uk/about-us/work-with-us.

The role is unremunerated and requires a time commitment of around five days a month.
