Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS) is undergoing an exciting period of reform designed to make a step change in improving the outcomes for infants, children and young people who need us most. Tribunal Members play a vital role in Scotland’s society. They listen and make legal decisions with, and for, infants, children and young people. They ensure that the young person is at the heart of every decision taken – because every decision, no matter how big or small, has an impact.
Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, the successful candidate will be central to championing the importance of wellbeing and provide a central point of reference and subject expertise for the creation and implementation of a wellbeing strategy for CHS.
The post holder will promote the strategic relationship between wellbeing, resilience, change, performance and delivery at an organisational level and integration within business and operational plans. The role will be a key partner to the Regional Tribunal Delivery Managers to support and guide the Regional Wellbeing Co-ordinators to promote the wellbeing of colleagues and volunteers.
Your role
This is a ‘people centred’ role, and the role-holder will need the soft skills necessary to build relationships with people who come from a variety of backgrounds and have strongly held beliefs.
The role holder will develop and implement the organisational wellbeing infrastructure and a suite of resources for CHS, aligning the core tasks and work undertaken by Wellbeing Co-ordinators (x9) who will be line managed at regional level by a team of Regional Tribunal Delivery Managers.
You will have the opportunity to shape and develop engagement and evaluation around wellbeing and its impact on organisational performance of both volunteers and colleagues, and create structures to support the wider People Strategy and ongoing development of a flexible, agile and high-performing team.

The role holder will be an exemplar for the values of CHS including; listening to and valuing the voice of children and young people; the contribution of volunteers; the importance of an engaged and healthy workforce and supporting the National Convener in ensuring delivery of a respected, quality based, and sustainable tribunal system.
You will be energetic and enthusiastic, a brilliant collaborator with demonstrable experience of partnership working.
You will have direct experience of supporting people (volunteers or employees) through complex or challenging situations. You will help create a supportive team environment by listening and responding to others and creating opportunities for innovation and generation of ideas and actions, to support or improve the wellbeing of volunteers and colleagues.
You will build links and networks across teams and regions internally, effectively initiating dialogue across the organisation and be able to coach and mentor others in developing their area of specialist expertise to a high consistent standard across the organisation.
Life at CHS
At Children’s Hearings Scotland, our highly trained Panel Members make decisions for Scotland’s unique Children’s Hearings System that upholds and promotes the rights of infants, children and young people. Our 2,500 volunteer Panel Members take part in children’s hearings in their local areas, making decisions with and for infants, children and young people. Our organisation also supports a network of Area Support Teams throughout Scotland who support Panel Members in their local communities.
