The Role:

Overall responsibility for our North Scotland Operations, you will oversee the implementation, management, and strategic development of Street League’s programmes across the Highland Inner Moray Firth region — based in Inverness — as part of an exciting new regional launch. In this role, you will not only establish and strengthen our presence locally but also drive the longer-term ambition of expanding and growing Street League’s impact across North Scotland, shaping the future of our regional operations.

You will play a key role in establishing and growing Street League’s presence in the Highlands, building strong partnerships with local authorities, schools, employers, and community organisations to maximise impact.

You will be responsible for delivering agreed operational and income generation targets, ensuring effective financial management, and maintaining the highest standards of delivery. Reporting to the Head of Operations (HOO), the Operations Manager will be a key member of the Operations Management Team within Street League and will contribute to and lead on the implementation of strategies that shape future operational delivery, growth, and community engagement across Scotland.

The Role:

The Progressions Coordinator works in partnership with their delivery partner (Youth & Community Coach) in delivering and administering Street League’s core programmes in their specific local areas.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Street League’s launch in North Scotland working within the Highlands Inner Moray Firth region. The Progressions Coordinator works in partnership with their delivery partner (Youth & Community Coach) to deliver and administer Street League’s core programmes, supporting young people to move into employment, education, or training.

As part of the launch team, you will play a key role in establishing Street League’s presence in the Highlands — developing strong relationships with local partners, employers, and referral agencies to ensure effective programme delivery and sustained outcomes for young people. You will help shape the success of this new area by providing high-quality support and progression pathways that transform the lives of young people through the power of Sport and Education.

You will be responsible for:

1. Securing employment, education and training opportunities for Street League participants and supporting them to progress. You will do this by locally securing and sharing job/training opportunities for young people.

2. The delivery of Street League’s Academy, in which you will deliver group employability and personal development workshops and qualifications.

3. Establishing and maintaining partnerships with referral agencies and develop further partnerships with employers or colleges in order to secure suitable opportunities for our participants.

4. Monitoring and reporting are essential to this role.

The Youth and Community Coach forms part of the Street League Delivery Team and works in partnership with the Progressions Coordinator in delivering and administering Street League’s programmes in their specific local area.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Street League’s launch in North Scotland working within the Highlands - Inner Moray Firth region. As a Youth and Community Coach, you’ll recruit and engage young people, deliver engaging sport and personal development sessions and support young people to gain the confidence and skills they need to transition into employment, education and training

You’ll work closely with the Progressions Coordinator to bring Street League’s programmes to life in the Highlands, build relationships with local schools, community organisations, and partners, and help establish our presence in this exciting new area.

You will be responsible for:

1. Engaging young people in local communities and online, as well as establishing and maintaining community partnerships.

2. Recruiting and registering young people onto Street League activity.

3. Delivery of community-based street sports, and the Street League Academy Programme.

4. Creative sports and team building activities aligned to Street League’s practice framework and qualifications.

5. Data entry and compliance for all Street League activity.

Background

The Edinburgh International Book Festival is a charity which exists to celebrate and share the power of writers, their ideas, and the words they craft to illuminate, challenge, and inspire.

Since 1983, we have welcomed millions of visitors into conversations with the world’s greatest and most exciting emerging writers, thinkers, artists, and performers. Iconic figures such as Margaret Atwood, Alain de Botton, Oliver Burkeman, Noam Chomsky, Seamus Heaney, Kazuo Ishiguro, Toni Morrison, Arundhati Roy, Salman Rushdie, and Benjamin Zephaniah have appeared on our stages over the years, alongside a wide range of debut and early career authors.

Across the hundreds of events in our Adults, Young Adults, Schools, and Children’s programmes, the Book Festival offers audiences aged from 0 to 100 an active opportunity to engage with new and different perspectives on the world, create lasting memories through storytelling, fill their minds with fascinating knowledge, and discover the creative secrets of writers and artists.

We strive to be a safe and supported environment for people to have difficult discussions and lively debates in an atmosphere of curiosity and consideration, where different opinions can be respectfully shared. We are proud to platform voices and stories which are often overlooked, and are committed to breaking down barriers to access for those who may not initially consider themselves as a Book Festival audience.

Beyond August, the Book Festival is a year-round force for literary engagement. Working with partners in the local community – including schools, libraries, prisons, hospitals, and other community hubs – we foster a lifelong love of reading, embrace the life-changing potential of creativity, and develop engaged, informed audiences of all backgrounds and ages.

2025 was a bumper year for the Festival, with significant growth in site visits, ticket sales, and new audience members, all of which we aim to build upon in 2026, particularly through delivery of a new website and ticketing system, as well as grassroots audience development initiatives, and data-informed marketing campaigns.

The team

The Book Festival has a permanent staff of 25 throughout the year, expanding over the spring and summer to a peak of around 150 staff during the Festival. All staff members play a role in the ongoing development of the organisation through several full team planning and debrief meetings during the year.

The Development team is made up of 7 roles: Development Director, Sponsorships & Partnerships Manager, Sponsorship & Partnerships Officer, Development Manager (Trusts & Foundations), Development Manager (Individual Giving), Events & Digital Marketing Officer, and Development Assistant.

The role

Purpose of Role

To provide essential administrative and supporter care support across the Development Team, ensuring efficient use of the CRM system, excellent service for donors, members and supporters. This role is central to maintaining accurate data, delivering outstanding supporter care, and supporting income generation across the whole Development Team.
