Role

Every day people with chest, heart and stroke conditions are leaving hospital scared and alone. You can be part of our mission to make sure that there is no life half lived in Scotland.

By joining Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) as a Media Officer you can be the difference between people just surviving and really living.

You will be part of Scotland’s leading charity providing support to people with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live life to the full again. Our Hospital to Home services form a nationwide network of local support groups, nurses, volunteers and one-to-one support teams helping families adjust to life with a heart or lung condition or after a stroke.

This role is essential to promoting Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s work and ambition that there should be No Life Half Lived in Scotland.

CHSS is a go-to source for national and local journalists looking for case studies and comment on some of Scotland’s most pressing health issues, including Long-Covid. We’re looking for someone who is great at spotting a story, can pull out newsworthy lines from reports and data, and can translate that into strong media lines.

You will be joining a great, supportive team, working alongside our senior media officer, the policy and campaigns manager, and wider communications team to develop stories and campaigns that see CHSS appear in the local and national media on a weekly basis.

The post-holder will be full of creative ideas, have excellent written English and enjoy working as part of a busy communications team.

CHSS employees enjoy a variety of organisational benefits including: Company pension scheme, generous holiday allowance, company sick pay, employee welfare support and life assurance.

CHSS also supports flexible recruitment through Working Families and we are “Happy to Talk Flexible Working”.

In line with our commitment to safeguarding, this role is subject to a Basic Disclosure check. CHSS is committed to equality of opportunity and to providing a service which is free from unfair and unlawful discrimination. We therefore aim to ensure that no applicant, volunteer or member of staff is unfairly treated on the grounds of offending background.
